Maybe we've been watching too much Mad Men, but lately we've been obsessed with stylish bar set-ups in the dining room, where cocktails can be close at hand for easy mixing during or after a meal. Ashley Henley's dining room bar, with its cute box shelving and pitcher full of colorful straws, is the latest to strike our fancy...

Ashley set up her bar on an Ikea Effektiv office cabinet, which she says works perfectly for storing liquor, glasses, and other bar necessities out of sight. We love the vignette she's arranged on top of the cabinet too, choosing her favorite bar tools and bottles to highlight in the display. The pedestal that holds the straws and glasses is actually a monitor stand from Ikea. There's something so cheeky about using office furniture for a bar! And the box shelving used to hold souvenir shot glasses is also a fun idea.
Ashley's home is full of inspiring ideas... check out her Flickr page to see more. On her blog, The Pink Sink, she details some of her home projects with more photos. (You might remember her craft room from Beth's post, too.)
Do you keep a bar in your dining room? How do you display your prettiest bottles and bar accessories?

I have been obsessing over making a home bar lately! I definitely want to steal a few ideas from this post!

I have a short, deep (free from beside the dumpster at my old apartment) bookshelf. I sewed a curtain to hide the shelves, but just this morning I was thinking I should add a hutch sort of thing on top to hold glasses.

I have a built-in hutch in my house. The counter of the hutch is my bar. The drawers below hold extra linens/towels and bathroom items (my bathroom is right across from it and doesn't have much storage space). The upper cabinets of the hutch are for storing plates and flutes/martini glasses.

Can someone ID the rug in the hallway?

Not sure I'd call it cheeky, but it does look lovely. I have our bar things in an old orange crate stacked sideways. And, funny enough, the bottles are in a clementine crate within the orange crate!

there's a lot of bars being sold by C&B Pottery barn and the like, but you can use lots of other furniture for the purpose. I have an old MCM tall bookshelf with a "desK" that folds out, have the liquor in the old desk part, and a wine rack and glasses, etc on the open bookshelves.

I don't think bar and clever should be in the same sentence.

A few years back I was using my secretary as a bar, its one of those upright danish modern upright desk with the flip door. But, then I became too obsessed buying good looking expensive liquor bottles on a beer budget.

In my past rentals I've always had a built in hutch where we kept the "bar". However the new space does not, so a dresser, turned buffet/fish tank stand, will now be turned into the bar! I don't mind displaying liquor and wine in the open, so it has a large surface for that, and then tons of space below for vital storage in our new small space.
