apartment therapy changing the world, one room at a time

Flickr Finds: Jenhewett's Bright Book Corner

7.14.09 corner 2.jpgWe came upon this photo of a cozy looking reading corner, and had to share it here on Apartment Therapy. We greatly appreciate a small area, stolen from the larger living space, and turned into an intimate vignette of a room. Jenhewett created a great little reading corner in her home in which we would love to curl up with a book...

7.14.09 corner 3.jpg Off to what seems to be the side of the dining area, Jenhewett has arranged a bookcase and chair into a little reading corner, and made the space it's own with artwork and rugs. We love the layering of carpets, with contrasting color and texture. Some of her own artwork is incorporated nicely with other size pieces in a cohesive and interesting arrangement.

In all, these Flickr photos show a well curated area with personal touches and interesting details that doesn't threaten to appear cluttered. Great use of a small space. We love!

I love it! You can actually buy her work on Etsy if you want approximate a little of that serenity in your own home. (jenhewett.etsy.com) Shame that that little dog isn't for sale, too!

Even though that's not the sort of chair you can curl up in to read a book, I love your library space. It's quite personal.
I spy an outlet for the perfect reading lamp!

I love the white bookcase with the decorative molding and the pops of color (turquoise and green). I'm not a fan of the that particular chair for reading, maybe the pillow helps though. . . Cute sleepy dog!

I'd be out of shelf space in 2 weeks.
The bookcase is attractive with an interesting construction. Inventive use of pipes.

Thanks for all the comments! @ saraesc - I do read there. I have an ottoman that makes sitting in the chair for long periods of time quite comfortable. It moves to different areas in the room, along with my reading lamp, depending on what area I'm working in.

To me it looks better for browsing ("I could have sworn I read something about..." *flip*flip*flip*) than cozying up to read. Also, as previously mentioned, no lamp. BUT cheerful area and a good place to attractively store an extra chair. I may steal this set up in my new place (also with an un-cozy chair, I'm afraid).

Cute reading nook, but is that a table made from an old door in the foreground? I'd love to see more of it. And how cute is your dog? House tour! House tour!

love it, very inviting.
that looks like an ikea rug... Its the perfect size to sew into a pillow cover for a big floor cushion. I made one out of the black runner and I love it.

I like the idea of putting a block of colour in the middle of a wall to give it a bit of focus. Without that big green square this niche might look a bit insipid, and if it were larger (ie the whole wall) it would be overwhelming. As it is, it's just very clever and innovative.
