Flower Box Award: Arguello near California

flowerbox_arguello.jpg

We stopped the car the other day when we noticed this amazing display tumbling from a planter in front of a house on Arguello.

When you live on a busy motor vehicle thoroughfare like Arguello, it takes real devotion to cultivate such a lush garden in front of your home. Kudos to the people who live here.

We're not sure what this species is and we'd like to know because we haven't seen it before. Even the rippled leaves are extraordinary.

Very breathtaking. It is so easy to forget about cultivating plants in and around your home with all the other stressors and activites going on.

That's two different plants. The flowers look like a Pelargonium to me. The elongated leaves could be calla lily or a type of arum. Can't see enough of them to tell. Pretty combination, though. I remember trying to beautify the front of my SF home years ago -- with carefully tended plantings -- only to have the neighbor's kids destroy it out of ill temper. One of the many reasons I left the city.

Good for whoever this is for making the effort!
