Green Capsule: the Tiniest Garden

0422_greencapsule01.jpg

It's Earth Day, it's Small Cool 2009, so we want to share this tiniest of gardens with you. It's the Green Capsule, a small mobile vegetable garden from Japan. So small, in fact, that it sprouts a single vegetable seed at a time...

The Green Capsule comes with the kit shown above and is supposed to be attached to a cell phone strap. It could just as well be displayed at home, though, in some pretty cool ways. The kit comes with four types of seeds: tomato, sweet basil, cabbage and green pepper. See many more shots of the Green Capsule at Strapya World, where the capsule sells for about $16USD.

to quote seth meyers of weekend update, "oh Japan, so much technology, so little being normal..."
this is actually pretty cool though, i love Japan and the tiny, neat little things that come out of it.

Yeah, but my tiny-succulent-in-a-light-bulb will be decorative longer. *And* it's recycled. Ha. (OK, so I can't get the plant out of the light bulb.)

The instructions are great, though. I'd display them.

Me too! I'd frame the instructions...

I could hang the capsule from my rear view mirror.

I love the rear-view mirror idea! The Japanese come up with the cutest little things! There's actually a word for tiny, cute things, "Kawaii". These are so cute I might actually have to get one...
Here's another version that I saw when I visited Japan, and I still kick myself for not buying one...http://www.strapya-world.com/categories/12_71_1175.html

Seems pretty wasteful to me... What's wrong with a real garden? Or at least a regular sized pot?

ThinkGeek.com pet cacti are smaller and premade, but less natural looking. I feel a bit of regret for not buying one before they moved to the colored gel and a different container.

This is such a good idea they should mass produce it (in sweat-shops, of course)! Then when you ordered it it could be packed in bubble wrap and shipped across the world in a big container ship.

Yay Green!
