Look!: Simple Hand Painted Flower Pot

6-26-paintedpot.jpgWe love colorful ceramic pots, but they can get expensive. Our old standby terra cotta, on the other hand, is cheap but can start to feel a little boring. The next time we want to add some color to our planters, we'll take a cue from this painted pot we spotted in a friend's home recently.

All you need is regular acrylic paint, although we have a feeling that latex might work just as well. We love the way these simple stripes look around the rim, but you could obviously get as fancy as you want. Regardless of design, this activity promises to be cheap, fast, and easy - exactly the way we like our craft projects.

I've done something similar in my container garden and love it. However, just wanted to point out something I noticed on a neighbor's porch – if you cover the body of the pot (not just the rim), you might end up with bubbles where moisture wanted to escape but could not. Not so attractive! I would consider either finding a paint that water could pass through, keeping designs on the lower portion to thin lines, or just *only* painting the top rim.

You will need to water seal the pot inside and out or your paint job will be ruined by moisture.
