The Great Compost Giveaway!

5-13-08 compost4.jpgWhen we were pint-sized ragamuffins, Pops would pile empty garbage bins in to the minivan and drag our tiny behinds down to the horse stables to load up on good ole stinkin' horse manure. We'd haul it in to the backyard and bask in the glory of our sure-to-be-fantastic compost. While we remember those days fondly, we wouldn't hold it against you if the ripe stench of horse manure didn't appeal....lucky for all of us, there's a much easier way to indulge in a little "gourmet compost".

If you're a San Francisco resident, grab your bucket and head on down to the Third Annual Great Compost Giveaway. This is your chance to reap the rewards of all of the green barrels you've been filling up:

"The finished compost, a custom blend made from food scraps collected from restaurants and homes in San Francisco, is a great planting mix for home gardens and container plants. Sunset Scavenger Company, Golden Gate Disposal & Recycling, SF Recreation & Parks and the San Francisco Department of Environment coordinate this event to thank residents and to give back some of the compost they helped create."
