Wall Garden

2006_06_09_gardenwall.jpgWarning: this product renders the small space excuse useless. Even if your outdoor space is no bigger than a juliet balcony a wall garden is probably workable.

These Italian-designed units attach to a wall and protrude only 2" (the $59 15-pot size) to 3.5" (the $119 30-). Fill with soil and stack more than one to make a green wall -- or make a low, textured hedge effect with plants growing out of the top as well as the pots.

Available through Lee Valley.

Oh, my gosh, just imagine the themed planting you could do! A base of trailing rosemary, topped by a hedge of lavender. Or a wall of basil, topped by a few tomatoes. Or alyssum, with an ever-changing array of annuals on top. Or strawberries, with mint on top. Or chard and salad greens, with peppers on top. Or ...

Well, you get the point. And these seem totally complimentary to the Spanish-themed cottages and apartments you see in this area.
