Garrison's "Smothered with Color"

11-2-look1.jpg
Garrison from Portland wrote to us: I know you won't be able to enter me in your contest but I wanted to share the color scheme I've come up with to make an 'over the top' guest bedroom. Many of the objects are from tag sales or resale shops and the ceiling color is a custom mix I came up with for the room.

We love color, here's a shot of our front porch. We used Benjamin Moore Copper Kettle on the exterior of the house with Benjamin Moore's Brazen for the trim color.

Thanks, Garrison!

Love the guest room. How high are the ceilings? I would like to copy you painting technique but am worried my ceiling might be too low.

Love your porch. Envy your porch. Someday, one of the sites really needs to do Porch Month. (I'd suggest ATLA, since that's where the high concentration of bungalow-dwellers seems to be.)

Ditto every statement above!

I love the Porch Theme idea, wende. Or even devoting a month to an Entryway Theme, as this entrance area is so classy and cozy! Adore it, and we all yearn to see more.... (hint hint!)

Thanks for all the great comments. We lucked out with this old foursquare having a large front porch..we use it, neighbors use, it's a great place to hang out. The 'outdoor' rug came from a spa/hot tub shop; Marquis Spas. It's held up quite well.

The guestroom has 9' ceilings...the darker tones help to give it depth. I like to think smaller rooms deserve richer colors.

I LOVE the black table in the bedroom.....and you tell me where you found it? I've been searching for one for months! Thank you!

Megan, the black table in the foreground of the bedroom shot was the inspiration for the 'over-the-top' design...it's the Camp Hickory Spool Table from www.mitchellgold.com it cost more than any other single item in the room..but worth it.

I love your guest bedroom. I especially love the color combination and the table is very unique. Where did you find it? It is a very inviting room and any guest would be very comfortable staying in your guest room.

Garrison,

What are the colors that you used in your guest room and what brand of paint. The rooms looks terrific... I knew the table was Mitchell Gold it helps make the room.

Thanks for sharing,

The table was one of the first pieces that provided the inspiration for the room. I bought it @ Mitchell & Gold.

Garrison,

Love the room and the porch...are you a designer "for real" or just for a hobby? I'm a Portlander and looking for someone to help with design advice. Let me know if you're doing this kind of work!

I'm working on the house tour. Again, thanks for all the kind comments. I've been extremely busy with work and not had a chance to get all the 'blanks' filled in for the house tour...I'll try and get it wrapped up this weekend. And Lise, go to my website and you can contact me from there jagwired.net and we can talk about your decorating dilemma.
