Remember the Method Giveaway we held earlier this month? As promised, nolastudent provided us with a review of the products she received.

As most of us expected, the most redeeming quality of these products on the whole is the packaging. The tear drop soap on my Ikea sink just a pleasure to look at in the morning.
I’ll start with the soap. The one I received is a bright green-colored cucumber scent. Although the second ingredient is sulfates and it is drying, I do like the scent. Not too strong, especially compared to the cucumber all-purpose spray ... It smells like cucumber melon lotion from Bath & Body Works which takes me back to eighth grade CYO dances. Awkward! As for function, this is nice for light, everyday wiping off of the counter. Nothing too powerful; won’t get your dried-on junk without some major elbow grease or some hot, hot water.
I also received the dish detergent, another case of beautiful packaging. It’s pink, grapefruit-scented and quite nice. I don’t do much hand-washing, but it did tackle the one greasy chicken bake pan with as much gusto as my usual Dawn. And this is my favorite scent out of all the products nice and light.
On to the bathroom products: The flushable wipes are supposed to have a eucalyptus mint scent, which sounds right up my alley. Too bad they smell just like Windex ... Just try cleaning your toilet with a baby wipe; it’s the same thing.
The personal bath products I got were okay. I like the Bloq packaging a lot because they are easy to organize and store on a shelf. The green mint lotion has a light, clean scent ... The ingredient list would scare me away though lots of words I don’t understand.
The wood spray and rag (sold separately) are my new favorite cleaning products. I don’t think I make a good critic though, since I have never used wood cleaning stuff before and I don’t know if the stuff I used it on was actually wood. But it really made my bathroom cabinets nice and shiny. And the almond scent is heavenly. Smells like dessert.
My biggest disappointment was the aroma ring. I thought it looked so cool on my window sill, but after a week I have yet to smell it without actually touching my nose to the ring. It smells really good from there, but it did not release any scent, even in my small bathroom. I even used both pouches that it came with, to no avail.
Thanks, Method and AT!
So far I've liked the Method cleaning products. I have a few of them, and with the exception of the Furniture/Wood wipes, they all work pretty well, have great style/scents, and at least make me feel I'm doing something slightly good for the environment. I will caution people against the wood wipes. I bought them thinking that because I'm a bit nutty about cleaning, using this product would help cut time. Instead it left the worst oily residue on my furniture. It took me several cleanings to get rid of it.

i second the wood wipe comment; tried it once and it left a slightly oily/stick residue which we didn't like... we use just about all their other products, and, yes, some times you need more elbow grease to make them work than with the industrial cleanres out there but, for the most part we don't mind since they're less toxic over all... oh, the
yling ylang bathtub/shower cleaner is HEAVY scented, my goodness it stinks up the place! I wish they would make a grapefruit scented one.
The stainless steel wipes work well, too...

I agree with the chris_94131 about the yling ylang bathtub/shower cleaner... boy it stinks!
I was very glad to use the rest of it just to get rid of it, as I didn't want to throw it away. It stinks that bad.
I recommend for everyday cleaning, all purpose: Trader Joes Next to Godliness Multi-Purpose cleaner.
It has a fresh forest-y scent, ha, and cleans up really well.

I hope that everyone knows that anything smelling of cucumber that is not an actual cucumber is made with synthetics. As are strawberry and lily-of-the-valley.

I have used the plug-in air freshener "pill". Quite a strong scent (I used sweet water) and fades in about a month. I do with they had other scents to try, besides sweet water and lavender.

My Method Review:
All purpose cleaner spray stuff in grapefruit -- love it. But now I use diluted Mrs. Meyers Clean Day in a spray bottle. Mrs. Meyers requires more elbow grease and seems to spread oil around instead of cutting it, so I'm on the hunt for something else. The smell is more natural and light than the Method.
O-Mop -- like the design. Much easier on the back and easier to get pressure on the floor than other sweeper type things. When using the microfiber mop pad, I have to rinse it after one or two heavy strokes across a smallish room. Good at picking up the dirt and not just spreading it, though.
O-Mop sweeping clothes -- Eh. No different than Swiffer. Except they are compostable. Make me a compostable hand-held duster and we'll talk.
Wood for Good -- Better than Murphy's but not just everlastingly wonderful. Nice smell. No residue, but I have to squirt a TON of it on the floor to cut through spots and stuff.
Ylang Ylang shower spray -- I have noticed no difference in the buildup of soap scum on my tiles and shower curtain, even though I use the product as recommended.
Tear Drop bottle of hand soap in Water Lilly or something like that -- it's ok. The spout broke after about a week and soap would shoot out at your belly. I've switched to a bar of French soap that's milled with rosemary pieces. Much better.
Tile and Soap Scum cleaner in Eucalyptus and Mint, I think -- I prefer Bon Ami. The Method cleaner doesn't cut scum and requires way too much elbow grease and a really rough scrubber pad to make a difference. The smell kind of nauseates me--and I normally love eucalyptus.
Laundry detergent and fabric softener -- Decent formulas, but the bottles S-U-C-K. You squeeze them to spurt out a bit of product into the attached cap, which serves as the measuring cup. If you have a stacked washer dryer, it is absolutely impossible to get the fabric softener from the Method bottles cap thingy into the compartment in the center of the washer without spilling softener everywhere. Guess I could have transferred it from bottle to a cup to the washer, but that would defeat the purpose of the bottle's design. I much prefer Mrs. Meyers in Geranium. Green formula, lasting scent.
Soy candles, I've tried grapefruit and Lemongrass/Sage, I think -- Nice. Last a decent amount of time. When you are in the house, you quickly get used to the subtle smell, so you may think it's not strong enough. But when you leave and come back, you notice how nice it is.
The candles and the Wood for Good (till I find something else for the floors) are the only Method products I'll probably continue to buy regularly--if my janky Target will ever keep them regularly stocked.

7th Generation laundry soap is amazing. It's a buck or so more than the plebeian Tide and you find that if you use less it works just as effective. The unscented smells like clean clothes should, instead of a highly perfumed Mountain Fresh Springtime Morning. And if everyone swapped to a bottle of 7th generation, we save 298,000 barrels of oil, enough to heat and cool 17,100 U.S. homes for a year. That's insane!
I find the Mrs. Myers products to be overpriced and not be effective.
The Trader Joe's is a good product, I find it to be similar to the Method products.
Making your own: There are a lot of recipes online, and Heloise's seem to be the most effective and simple.
It's a trade-off using environmentally friendly products: You may have to scrub a little harder but it's worth saving the planet, or at least doing your share.

Mrs Meyers' stuff gives me headaches unless I dilute it to the point that it doesn't work.
I had a sticky, nasty, greasy stove hood a few apartments ago - tried everything from vinegar & baking soda to supertoxic cleaners of death on it, and the product that finally cleaned it was Method lavender all-purpose spray.

I use the wood cleaning combo and they're great. In fact I think they're superior to other products as they don't strip your furniture and they don't leave a residue either.
As for the the ring, I like that as well. Some scents are much more subtle than others. The vanilla something or other will hit you like a sledge hammer. The eucalyptus (or the water) something or other is nice. Nice in that I can only smell it upon entering my home.
I've used their granite spray cleaner and that's nice as well. The foaming hand soap is another strong part of their line-up. My only disappointment is the lack of a refill.
