Country style?!? On Apartment Therapy? Yes, indeed. But we're not talking dried-flower wreaths, rooster motifs and gingham everywhere. Diane Dorrans Saeks, the California editor for Metropolitan Home, has put together a collection of residences from Pebble Beach to Napa Valley (which happen to be two of our favorite weekend-getaway destinations). According to Chronicle Books whom we have to thank for this giveaway "California Country Style is an ode to great taste."
Here's how the giveaway works: Simply submit a comment below, telling us what your favorite weekend-getaway destination is. We'll run this post for about 48 hours, and then choose our favorite comment. The winner will receive an email from us, and will be announced on the site on Monday morning.

My favorite weekend destination is Virginia Beach. Only 2 1/2 hours from DC, without traffic, it's great to relax and unwind--sometime you just need to get sand between your toes and salt in your hair. Plus my new baby nieces live there so being with them is a definite bonus.

My favorite weekend getaway is Point Reyes. It's not too far you've got the water (try Blue Waters Kayaking), lighthouse, Tulle Elk, the Pine Cone Diner and O-Y-S-T-E-R-S!

My favorite weekend getaway is my home in the mountains. I commute an hour each way every weekday, and it's heaven to spend my weekends in my little cottage nestled in a valley in the mountains east of San Diego. The weekend usually starts with breakfast at our local diner, and then we work on projects around the house. I'm currently doing lots of renovating and decorating, all in a very California modern/country/flea market style, so this book sounds like the perfect inspiration. After all that hard work, I like to spend Sunday afternoon on the porch, watching the chickens range around the yard.

I’ve lived in Los Angeles for six years and about a year ago I realized that I didn’t really know that much about neighborhoods outside my own. So my new favorite weekend-getaway is to Priceline a local hotel and spend two days getting to know an area of Los Angeles. So far I’ve “visited” downtown LA, Santa Monica, Beverly Hills, and Hollywood—my next neighborhood is Pasadena. It’s great--I’ve eaten at restaurants I never would have otherwise found and stumbled onto some really great little shops. I make an effort to visit local attractions and museums—I guess I’m a local tourist. Some hotels are better than others but it’s all part of the adventure and I’ve gotten some good design ideas from some of them.

Fave weekend getaway (at least for this month!) is Napa Valley. Nothing like delish food & wine under the warm autumn sun and changing leaves to melt away the stress of city living. There's also something calming about the orderly rows of grapevines traversing the rolling hills. Or maybe that's just the Pinot talking. :)

Sunset State Beach

A tent, basket of cheeses and breads, and some warm knitted layers make it a perfect weekend. Sleeping under countless stars, the musical sound of the ocean waves at dusk to dawn, crisp clean scented beach air, occasional fog sweeping in from the ocean onto our campsite, and at $25/night, I couldn't ask for more.
The weekend includes "self guided" lessions in native plant species and wildlife such as birds, bats, owls (don't be suprise to spot one or all of these above your head).
Sometime you just have to forgo the five-star hotel treatment for this is dream weekend.

It changes - - but right now, I'd take anything - time anywhere with my husband (without the blackberry) for an entire weekend would be priceless. Just to get away from the nitty gritty of daily routine.
It could be camping at Punderson Park, staying at the Wyndham downtown and taking in a play, jetting down to a warm weather location (hmm, Padre? West Palm?).
Right now, I wouldn't be picky on the location - just desperately am craving some alone time with the love of my life!

I adore my boyfriend's great-grandmother's beach cottage in Long Beach, WA. Maude and Claude (his great-grandparents) built the tiny structure in the 1950s on Willapa Bay. It is perfect because it is so very small and complete, there's no tv, the living room's giant window faces the bay, and my dog is welcome.
Every time we visit the bay house, we take my dog for a long walk at a state park, we wander around Oysterville (a village and historic district), stuff ourselves with pastries at the local bakery, drink fresh-roasted coffee, buy just-out-of-water fish to cook for dinner, play frisbee, and read stacks of magazines.

My husband and I went to Dublin (living in London at the time) and loved it so much. Still remains our favorite. My only regret is we only had 3 days there.

my favorite weekend getaway is to sea ranch.
it is an iconic californian adventure... leave san francisco and head out over the golden gate bridge...
up to the 1.... the ocean, the hills, the winding road; does the view ever get old?......to sea ranch where some of our greatest local architects blend great design with the unique landscape... amazing beaches, geology and hiking trials... open air hot tubs with star filled nights... sporadic cell phone service.... it really can't be anymore relaxing.
people come from all over the world to check it out and it is right in our backyard for us to embrace anytime.

My ideal weekend getaway would be a trip with my fiance to sunny northern California! I would love to tour the wine countryside of Napa Valley for their delicious wines. I've never been on a wine excursion and would love to taste the variety flavors, learn about the cultivation and discover the history. After a day in the countryside, I would love to visit the bay area for a scrumptious seafood lunch, then maybe take a stroll through one of s.f.'s farmer's markets to try out their homegrown delicacies that Chicago may lack due to our colder climate. I guess my ideal getaway would be filled with great company, beautiful weather, a nice stroll in the mountains, and end with a good palate of wine and food....the simplicity of life away from a big city!

My favorite weekend get away is curled up at home with my partner and our son, eating fresh cinnamon rolls watching movies in our pajamas. It isn't often that we have the luxury of all of us having an entire weekend free.
If we leave the city we love to head upto Bodega Bay where we rent a house and spend the weekend exploring: flying kites at the beach, collecting sea shells along the shore, watching quail as they come up on our deck in the evening and falling asleep to the sound of crickets. The wonderful excited look my son gets as he discovers something new reminds me of the beauty and amazement all around us.

The Marin Headlands is on the top of the list. It was the first time I ever saw the Pacific Ocean - it was (and still is) the most breathtaking view. Hiking/Biking through the headlands there was a mixture of scents that can't be replicated - I tried looking for a candle/room spray and decided if I really want the scent - go to the source. So I go back. This is one place I would almost consider camping...too fond of amenities to actually camp but I would consider it. Everyone should visit it just once to experience the beauty.

My favorite vacation spot depends on my mood. I love Morro Bay for the quiet, relaxing, get-out-of-the-race feel. The shops are delightful and the locals are so friendly. But I love Santa Barbara (which is only minutes from my hometown) for a weekend away to shop or visit their beautiful zoo and mission.

My favorite weekend getaway is any campground in the mountains around Idaho Springs. To sleep in a tent, snuggled up with my family is the most relaxing thing in my weekend. To watch the kids have the time of their lives with sticks and rocks. For them to learn how to build a fire and enjoy the outdoors. There's nothing like it. :0)

My 2 favorite weekend destinations are Santa Barbara and San Diego (what is happening is so sad!). Going to Santa Barbara Hwy 1 is gorgeous with views of the ocean for miles. Here is what we do: Breakfast at the Big Yellow House (YUM!) and then off for shopping at Paseo Nuevo. Lunch on Stearns Wharf with more waterfront views and then off to the beach for some lazy sunning (is that a word? : ) We sometimes stroll the boardwalk where local artisans display their works. Dinner is always seafood...dessert at Longboards (cookie monster or mud pie for sure!). Then off to Montecito for a relaxing stay in a B & B. Lazy days ahead we grab Starbucks and our beach gear and head back to the beach. Sometimes we go to the spa for a massage, sometimes we go to for afternoon tea. Santa Barbara holds many fond memories for my husband and I. I could share about our numerous trips to San Diego but I've already written too much.
