We like the Cambridge Two-Tier Server for a couple of reasons.
Yes, it can be used for serving, as Crate & Barrel suggests. But when not pressed into table service, we see it used for storage: sitting on the counter in a small kitchen, an efficient double-decker spot for room temperature perishables that doesn't hog too much counter space.
The footprint is narrow (16.25"x7.25"), the arched handle makes it easy to transfer the whole thing to the table, and the porcelain plates go into the dishwasher for washing.
