We use ours for espresso shot glasses...but mostly we drop them before they have a chance to explode.

I got these glasses for my wedding. I pour hot water from a kettle directly into them and haven't had a problem so far. I've only used them 5 times at the most. This is very disconcerting. Thanks for the heads up!

We've broken 3 of our 4. The 4th one's been going strong for half a year so I'm hoping this post wont jinx it. They are very fragile for sure.

Those Bodum glasses are gorgeous, but I always thought they seemed too delicate for long-term, practical use. Since I started hearing reports of their exploding or imploding just a few weeks after they hit the market, I have been more than comfortable with my decision to pass on them. I'm sure I'm much happier with my tempered Duralex glasses (which I think were also featured here at AT). They, also, are gorgeous and after several years I still have a full set.

wow, i have these and have not had a problem (yet) with hot tea...and we use them several times a week. i'll now be more careful about using them.

When I was 18 years old I was plunging a Bodum French press and it exploded. The scalding hot coffee inside gave me second degree burns on my inner forearm. I ignored the burns (well, someone put butter on them) and they blistered into huge puss filled blisters and I got ill. I went to the doctor and got better. Haven't used a French press much at all since then.

If you search on amazon, there are also numerous reviews that also say these things are way too fragile but so awesome.

Oh my god! No one should put butter or oil on burns, that's the worst thing you can do. I'm so sorry, how awful.

Yes, this happened to me once too, while i had my hand inside of the large double-walled glass, sponging it out. still have the scar on my hand. Because i have a particularly clumsy roommate, we go through about 4 of these a month.

I just received 8 of these(!) as a birthday gift from a very nice friend, but I treat them like live grenades. I refuse to hand wash them because of the risk involved. So far they seem to be holding up very well, thanks to the miracle of modern dishwasher detergent.

After reading about these exploding Bodum glasses I saurely will not buy any. I was just about to buy a set from my favorite online catalog site. No chance of that now, and I will let them know why as well.
