Okay, we're being a little facetious with this, but then so were the designers, in all probability. It does intrigue us, though, to think creatively about how such a common tool can be designed to maximize the efficiency of its care. For we don't just eat off of plates, we wash, dry and store them too.

First up is The Cuelgame designed by Marc Graells Ballve & Victor Vinyamata. It features a little hook that can be used to hang it dry, or as a perch for a wine glass or a thumb. The second is designed by Ernest Perera, with similar multifunctionality — a flat tab allows it to stand on edge to dry (presumably on a tray of some sort to catch the water), but can also serve as a thumb rest.

Hey- maybe this is facetious and all, but I know a lot of people without dishwashers who would love this sort of thing. What I really want is for this to translate into cutlery, so I don't have to dry every blipping fork and spoon by hand.

I was at a party that had the plates with the little notches, and it was great having that for my wine. I highly recommend them!

These crack me up. I hope they're plastic.

I love idea number 1, it would totally rock (yes, I am one of those people without a dish washer).
Amanda, try sticking everything into a large cup or plastic tub to dry. That's what I do, and it works out pretty well, even when 90% of my 16 place settings are dirty.

Think about it. You can hang them like you hang coffee mugs under cabinets.
At the very least comical, but maybe it has potential in the right hands.
