We loved the question that AT:Chicago asked yesterday -- What's your best score from Craigslist?
Because we live in the Land of the Original Craigslist, we've been using CL for years. We've found some great buys, and then sold them when our taste changed. (Recently we sold several items to AT readers who have been sworn to secrecy about the embarrassing state of our apartment when they visited.)
Our best find is the vintage library table we use as a desk. It was $75 and looks similar to the one we show here (which is actually for sale on Craigslist now). Its legs are removable so we were able to get it up our tiny stairs, and it has scratches and ink stains, which we love.
So, what's your best Craigslist find? (Have you found something via our Scavenger?) Send us your photos!

My best craigslist find: a Heywood-Wakefield couch made in the 1940s in SF -- it is beautifully shaped and quite long. I bought it about 4 years ago from a lovely man who sells Depression-era dishware in the Haight (perhaps you've heard of Dishes Delmar?).
My 1970's black leather sofa for $40.00
Two red Eames chairs (one the dining chair, and the other the lounge chair). Gorgeous! And the opportunity to meet two very nice sellers.
First, my dog Cooper - he was free! And then my Mies Van Der Rohe dining chairs - all four for $35.00.
My Eileen Gray bedside table for $40
A one month old $6k Ligne Roset sofa for the cost of a pair of sneakers.
Our very first Craigslist purchase was today, and it was one of the items from your August 7 Scavenger, the DWR Bantam sofa for $799 instead of the $1398 retail. New, it did turn out to be a floor model with a few (very minor) scuffs one would expect from such use, but we're very happy with it. We had been planning to go to DWR tomorrow night to buy one for full retail, so I was amazingly surprised to come across the Scavenger post in Bloglines today and to discover the sofa was still available. It's now sitting in our 1956 Doelger living room (albeit alone amidst the packing boxes; we just moved here from Virginia in June, and it's our first furniture purchase), across from our original brick fireplace, and it fits here so nicely.
A KLH Model Twenty-Plus sound system, lovingly restored by Steve in Martinez who still posts other great mid-century pieces on CL.
My favorite find was my Jasper Sofa from Room & Board. I have always loved the sofa and wanted one, but couldn't afford one. I found two on CL at one time...one for $100 and the other for $250. The $100 one was sold before I could get at it, but I snagged the $250 one....I love it.
i got 2 upholstered celery green chairs in excellent condition $50 from two really nice guys. delivered! and from another seller a bent wood and glass coffee table from a ny design show $90. also delivered. and my third experience was a table i loved but didn't buy in my neighborhood. and the seller was so nice we are friends still. priceless. thanks craig.
The best thing I've ever found on craigslist is a set of eight amazing mid-century dining chairs that my friend Kristin bought for 150 bucks. They are the *most* beautiful chairs.
For me, I adore my orange IKEA Karlanda sofabed that I just got for 400 bucks. It's practically brand new! (click my name for link to photo)
Here are some photos (flickr link on my name) of my CL (Portland) finds.
I've got a few more CL finds that aren't posted.
2 aluminum chairs (emeco knockoffs)
cute red desk/secretary
retro steel medical cabinet
i had a CL addiction going for a while...
I know most people here are into mid-century mod, so this may not seem like such a catch, but it's my newest favorite. I found an unusual antique school desk (1900-1920 or so) on CL and have been nothing but estatic about it. I hadn't been looking for anything in particular when I stumbled onto it, but as soon as I saw it, I knew my old desk was on its way out the door.
four original emeco navy chairs for $150 and the guy insisted i take the 5ft modern oak wood table with the stainless steel top... so then i sold the table back on craiglist for $250. so i suppose the emeco chairs were free.
