apartment therapy changing the world, one room at a time

Etsy Find: Able + Baker

Too often we turn to IKEA whenever in need of new furniture. Some of us go to flea markets and thrift stores in hopes of finding something different and affordable. Rarely we look into custom pieces of furniture as the solution to our needs. We stumbled upon Able And Baker's blog and eventually found our way to their Etsy shop. The maple storage bench is what brought us here. We like the simple design and versatility. It could be used in any room. It offers storage, extra seating, and additional work surface.

The handles make it easy to move and you can order it with front panels, if you prefer to keep things out of site. We would love to see it in different colors as an option, but the maple finish would work great in our home.

Also check out the LP Room Divide that holds 60 12" records. It is such a great idea. We are always looking through old records in hopes of finding some amazing cover art. This is a perfect way to display the most treasured ones in your collection. We could see it becoming the main focal point in any room.

Visit Able + Baker Etsy shop for more products and details. They are located in the East Bay. For those of you that live in the Bay Area it would eliminate shipping charges.

This piece screams potential!!! I saw the first picture and imagined a wall with several of these arranged in diferent positions creating a big library wall unit. In the photos the piece seems to be really sturdy and of solid wood. That only is enough to give it enough dignity and presence.. that's why it looks good with such a basic design.

That is indeed a lovely storage bench. I like the light colored maple plywood, and the clean lined style, and wish that I could afford to support independent furniture makers.

At $279 it is far more expensive than the slightly less stylish, solid wood, storage bench that I bought at the dreaded Ikea for $99...

beautiful pieces, and considering the make, not too expensive, if well out of my range.

"Rarely we look into custom pieces of furniture as the solution to our needs."

Yeah, would love to do that, but it's not in the cards right now. Ikea and flea markets seem to indicate a customer with a budget. Not being in the Bay Area, the shipping would probably put these over the top for me.

Great pieces, though.
