Gosh, how sensibly designed. I know I could whip out out in a few hours after dinner on the table saw out of a sheet of plywood. Don't you know anyone handy who would throw one together for you for a few bucks and a homemade dinner?

I never paid attention to it before, but I have the perfect spot for it now that they don't carry it anymore. :(

I'm not feeling that Levenger one, and its a bit tall. Hope there are more suggestions out there.

A few years ago, more due to being a poor student than anything, I used a closet organizer shelf that was a hand-me-down from a roommate as a bedside table, similar to this one from home depot. I even got really clever and "upholstered" it with some fabric remnants.

have someone build it, it is a pretty simple design that could be done on the cheap with plywood and painted white, I had a friend build a book case for me and materials plus gas to his parent's farm (and free tools) cost about $80 of course was a lot cheaper in 2003

What about the Boby by Joe Columbo? AT blogged about it earlier this week. It would be the perfect bedside table.

If you have any connections in Memphis, TN or a couple other places in the U.S. - the table might still be available at the Pottery Barn Outlet store. There are often leftovers from previous seasons for less than half retail.

Otherwise, it doesn't seem like it would be difficult to build.

LaDonna's bookcase is nice, but too wide for a nightstand. The Levenger one is awfully tall, and I kinda have a bias against them, because their stuff is so pricey. They're a great company as far as standing by their products, but their items tend to be very WASPy -- at least in my Southern country girl opinion. They don't seem to feel the funk.

I use one of these and can fit several poetry or short story books (my favs) in each drawer. I highly recommend this. I have one by my front door as well to hold doggie poop bags and doggie winter clothing/raincoats!

Plus, you can close the doors, in case you have some porn you need to stash, LOL.

Hmm.....maybe you could take a short bookcase and assemble it differently?

Use the side piece for the BACK and attach it to the other side piece. Then take the shelves, cut them down to fit. You'd have twice as many shelves as the original bookcase because each original shelf would be cut at least in half.

You'd have to be handy with a saw and drill, but i really think it could work, plus you could have any finish you wanted.

That looks fairly easy to make. I've made several bookshelves and that one looks like it can be made from scraps of wood. It's pretty small.

The bottom step sticks out farther, but it has the different levels for books like the one you like and the price is good.

OK, you know I'm gonna hassle you on this one.... I'm the one who doesn't keep books that have been read (except reference books, of course).

How many books do you read at once? My sister will have four or five six going at the same time. I have always amazed by and just a little scared of people who can do that. I call it RHAD--Reading Hyperactivity Disorder.... ~:o)

It still has the modern clean lines and shelves for books. They have a few other things that have multiple shelves as well.

Back to the topic at hand: Oh, what a shame Pottery Barn doesn't make this bookshelf anymore. Two of these placed back to back behind a couch would look great and create a perfect side-table.
