Bed & Nightstands to Go With this Dresser?
Good Questions

Q: I need some suggestions for a bed frame and nightstands to go with this dresser I purchased at an antique store recently. While I love the retro quality, I'm not sure I want to play up that theme throughout the rest of my bedroom. I'd like more of an eclectic look, but still clean and simple. Any thoughts?

Love it!

Room and Board has nice brushed stainless bedframes that would make a nice contrast. I'm sure you can find knock offs. I got one at West Elm but I don't think they make it any more.

Maybe modern black or white side tables with storage draws and bring it together with some cool retro lamps that speak to your dresser.

Add a few touches of black.

Try to avoid more blocky furniture as that will weigh everything down. I'd go with a simple low platform bed and basic tripod (either with tapered or hairpin legs) or tulip-base night stands with round tops, perhaps painted in interesting colors (no need to match the wood of the dresser).

I second the metal or black-brown stained furniture. Also think about a fabric headboard: http://www.ikea.com/us/en/catalog/products/S99849942

I'd continue down the Vintage Road for your night tables...

...assuming they're the right height, there's a gorgeous pair of walnut and Travertine end tables available at Eamesloft.com

Try finding a bedframe and nightstands that are made of different materials, but that mimic shapes you already have going on in the room. I see a lot of squares (the dressers, the mirror, the candelabra) tempered with curves (the bowls, the chair). You might consider a simple iron bed frame, like this one: http://www.americanironbeds.com/ellbeds/bedfulls/urbanflpg.html

are these two seperate pieces? If so, I'd use these as nightstands and buy a credenza style dresser.

I think the best way to avoid looking either too mismatched or too matchy-matchy would be to switch materials altogether. I like the idea of a fabric headboard since it would be both comfortable and neutral. Lucite tables would be kind of cool, as would repurposed chairs from the same era as the dresser.

Clever Idea!

I think this will be so easy to find complementary pieces for - black is an easy, chic way to go but cherry red (modern) might be fun too.

Thanks for all the great suggestions! This dresser is indeed two pieces. And the candle holder I picked up for maybe $12 at an antique market.
