Can anyone give Cindy a tip? Let her know in the comments below...
Photo: Is NOT of Cindy's rug - it is from Pazyryk Rug
I'm confused - How you mean that you want a rug altered?
Made larger? Smaller?

What kind of rug? Altering a handmade oriental rug drastically reduces its value (unless the part you're cutting off is irrevocably damaged).
For a machine-made rug, your local carpet store could probably cut it and bind the raw edge.

A persian rug can usually be rebound or repaired by a dealer. But it's very expensive work because it's done by hand.

i have another question--i was considering buying one of john robshaw's anthropologie rugs (mentioned yesterday on apartment therapy). it is a cotton dhurrie. the one they are selling is too large for my space. has anyone tried to have one of these cotton rugs cut down and / or bound? thanks.

Venice--
Those rugs come in 2x3 or 6x9 - Are you sure it's too big?
Most folks put rugs that are too small in their rooms.

The owner of Nomad Rugs in Noe Valley is extremely knowledgeable about all types of rugs. I'd give him a call or stop by his shop: http://www.nomadrugs.com

Claremont Rug Company across the bay in Berkeley can take care of it. They restore old antique rugs, so trimming one shouldn't be trouble for them.
