Dear Meredith,

It may not be obvious yet, but we just did. AT-SF wll be covering the West Coast, south roughly as far as Santa Cruz (below that is Alec's balliwick) and north to Vancouver. We travel a fair bit and share a fondness for Seattle. In fact, we were just talking the other day about how nice it would be to live in a houseboat on Lake Union. Check in later this week for a review of one of our favorite Seattle resources ...

Any other Seattle or Portland readers out there right now?

I know there are 5 or 6 regularish pdx posters here, but I think JenPDX and I are the most frequent.

Yes, I'm out there. Out here. Out somewhere.
Trying to post less frequently and get more done at work. ;)

Santa Cruz always ends up in the "roughly" area. Neither northen nor southern, neither big nor small. Neither chic nor completely out of it. Just somewhere south of SF and north of LA.

Gosh.

I'm in PDX. I'm soon becoming a former apartment dweller, though. But, I think my new house is still small enough (900 sq ft) for me to need my AT fix.

Yes! It's so funny - I was just thinking the same thing as Meredith. I'm in Seattle and have been remodeling my 620sf house for the past 4 years and it will probably take 4 more...
If you do a feature on Seattle be sure to mention Earthwise and Second Use. They have great architectural salvage.

I was going to suggest maybe covering H&G in papers other than the SF Chronicle... but sheesh! They're ALL running mostly syndicated stuff.

We've been looking into other options, like the Seattle Post or Times but are concluding the same as you Wende.

Anyone out there have strong feelings for their local paper's home coverage?

The Oregonian (not so fondly referred to as the Boregonian by many) doesn't do so well for indoor design, but they have really good gardening sections done in-house by more than one regular, advice on growing dwarf fruit trees in containers for instance, or things that bloom in December, or new cool types of dwarf conifers.

The Seattle Times also has really good gardening articles, I think that is where Ann Lovejoy writes. I very successfully landscaped my little front yard last summer based on a collection of her articles that was published as a book. She emphasises planting sustainably in textured layers (which usually equals low maintenance).

I know that plants aren't classically thought of as a design component of apartment living, but they should be!

i am from seattle and think that the seattle times saturday digs (design interiors gardens spaces) section is ok. a number of local retailers and resources, but short on content overall.

Woo hoo - - AT in Seattle... so dreamy, glad to hear we'll see that soon.

DIGS - which I am glad KYD mentioned- is really just ok, as she said. Such a shame since there is a lot of good stuff in Seattle to uncover.

You'd think a site like AT would be a natural for Seattle. I'll keep my fingers crossed.
