Good Questions: Best (and Cheapest) Custom Sofa in SF?

customsofa110608.jpgNiki has a tall order for the crowd. She'd like to know the...Best and cheapest custom order soaf in SF. In LA there is the Sofa Copany, and I know they ship, but I was wondering is there a similar store in SF.

It's really worth making the trek over the hill and setting up an order with Custom Sofa Design. They just did a headboard and chairs for us that were unbelievable. I also used The Sofa Co for a sectional about two years ago and the quality and customer service were a little eh.

Hi Niki!
There actually used to be a store named Montauk Sofa located in the Bay area which recently closed. Though they do have a store in Chicago which could ship to you, and you would avoid paying CA taxes. They are an amazing custom furniture manufacturer who uses solid wood construction and do an 8-way hand-tied coil spring system. The product is also sustainable and hand-crafted in Montreal, Canada. I have had an amazing experience ordering and working with them, and would recommend you check their website out. www.montauksofa.com. The sofas start at $3,600 and you have a wide variety of fabrics to select from. Good Luck!

is sofa co really that good of a deal? i built a sofa the other day there and after all the options it was double the price (and i thought i was chosing all the cheap options!). doesn't seem any better than furniture i can buy elsewhere.

Do you want "Cheapest" or do you want "Best"? There's no getting both.

Plus there are so many variables in sofas - Some styles are simpler to create which makes them less expensive, as well as the size of the sofa - and fabric selection and material selection for cushions and springing makes a huge difference in pricing as well.

It's better to do some shopping around and see what styles and fabrics appeal to you personally

If shipping is an option, you might try Couch in Seattle. It was covered on AT earlier this month. http://ecocouch.wordpress.com/

Montauk Sofa is located in New York, in Soho. Specifically it's located on Mercer street, check it out! The showroom is stunning...
