Nyree is looking for some opinions. She writes: I'm registering for Heath plates from the coupe line and I just can't decide on what colors!! I was hoping for some input on what color is best from the line. I am leaning more towards the earthy - birch/sage/redwood etc...

this seems like a thinly-veiled advertisement.

Personally, I like the Opaque White and the Aqua/Matte Brown.

Hmm, maybe the one you and your partner like best? I'mnot sure how this qualifies as a "good" question. I mean, there are options, but it's not like strangers online are the best people to turn to...

Doesn't it depend at all on the color of your kitchen/dining area?

i'm too jealous to answer.
just kidding. i have the sage green mugs, and i love them. if i were registering for a complete set i would do a combination of sage and linen.

Food always looks best served on white plates. Add color to your table with linens, centerpieces, flowers, etc.

sage and birch would also work perfectly together.

Why not mix up 3 or 4 colors if you can't decide?

We registered for heath and I LOVE everything we got. Some of the glazes have lead in them, so you have to be careful. We got Mist/Linen.

Glazes with lead?! Really? Maybe you should check out Sasaki Colorstone instead. Designed in the 80s by Massimo Vignelli and still looks current today. Wears like iron and has an equally appealing/confounding color selection.

My personal favorite Heath color is Moonstone.

Where did you get this info? I believe you're sadly (fortunately?) mistaken...

Sorry, I guess Colorstone is now discontinued. (Note to self: Do not break dishes.)

Part of me wants to tell you to get one dish in every color: it would look so beautiful in your cabinet and on the table! But, if you do want matching dishes, go with a light color, not necessarily white, but light and neutral. Food looks best served on white, it's true. But that's usually because of the high contrast between white plate and food. So choose something that keeps that contrast going.

Only the historical glazes have traces of lead. The glazes have passed both CA prop 65 and FDA guidelines and testing. Heath has full disclosure about this on their site. The glazes are safe. Sitting in a traffic jam is more toxic. But if it is a concern, I think these are the historical glazes: matte brown, redwood, birch, opaque white and one or two more I forget. Linen is lead free. So is everything developed since the company changed hands in 2003.

PS: The cocoa and fawn combo is stunning.

I just bought some slightly scratched plates and perfect little plates at a thrift store. I really liked how elegant they are. Will check the lead issue, Thanks robertcraig.

We are crazy about all our Health stuff. We got a whole set of Coupe dishes and bowels for our wedding. All of their new glazes are lead free, but some of the older ones do have traces (FDA approved and very safe) of lead in the glaze. They were wonderful about switching stuff out and doing exchanges for us. The information about the glaze is on their web site and our friends found it when they went to buy dishes from our registry and the warning popped up, so I emailed them and they sent a bunch of information. As we will be using the dishes every day (hopefully for many years)...I went with the newer and still beautiful glazes. We got linen and then mixed and matched with the bowels.

Pick what you like and think you can live with a long long time! Neutrals tend to remain "classic" throughout decor changes, but if you are an "I love blue" couple from forever and think it's gonna last, then that's an option, too...

They just launched "settings" for this dilemma!

But yep, this is one personal question. Everyone has different tastes in color, but for me, I have the french grey plates and my bowls have the persimmon inside... I'm a fan of plates with less color because you never know what you want to serve on them, but then the bowls are a great accent when you serve them on the plates with salad etc. hey, that's just me, though! =) It's just really hard to go wrong with any of their great colors.
