I have that Emeco bar stool on the left in my kitchen, and it is very uncomfortable. All style and no comfy.

designpublic does have great selection of stools online, but they don't have a showroom to test them for comfort, do they? There are so many items on their site that I would buy if only I could see them in person (and had won the lottery)...

on a kind of related note, does anyone know of a physical store in SF that sells fatboy cushions?

I will add cb2 to the list of stores for contemporary stools. They have a bent plywood one that's nice.

Right down the street from LIMN is a stool and chair shop. I don't know how design-y they get beyond being the wooden version of a hubcap store that it appears to be from the front, but it's worth a check. It's by the motorcycle shop and that restaurant with the patio (that may even have the word "patio" in its name), between 4th & 5th on Townsend (I think).

aluminum stools here, i purchased the melanie swivel counter stool and was very happy with the service and quality somewhat like a emeco only less expensive
