Hi AT, I love AMC's "Mad Men" but more than the show itself I love the set design. There is a chair and couch in Don Draper's office and I must have it. Would anybody know who made this chair or if there is one out there that closely resembles it?
-AH
Anyone?

You guys should feature those animal prints that are hanging in the vestibule of Pete Campbell's apartment. They are fantastic.

In terms of the shape and the legs, Knoll's Divina chair could be an option.

If you like the wood exterior you can also try the salsa seating collection from Knoll - you can get it without the shelves too. Although the legs are different...

Sorry I can't help with the chair - didn't mean to hijack the thread.

Hi AH - I haven't seen "Mad Men" yet, but from the photo both the the sofa and the chair resemble Milo Baughman's designs.
They could also very well be Jydsk Mobelvaerk (very similar in design) which were made in Denmark. I have the Jydsk Mobelvaerk sofa version in my office and really LOVE it. It's very mod looking, extremelly low to the ground, and incredibly comfy.
They are out there, but are becoming difficult to find and expensive to buy. I'd suggest to check vintage modern shops in your area on a regular basis and keep an eye on Ebay.

I was just cruising Craigslist and found nearly identical sofas, and TWO of them - $800 each or $1500 for both. I love these, too!
Here's the link - maybe the person who posted them can tell you who the manufacturer is:

They were made by a company in LA called Simplaform. No affiliation, just know the piece. See www.simplaform.com

For what it's worth, the other chair in the foreground is Finn Juhl.

I believe Mad Men's set designers get a lot of their stuff from Futurama in L.A.

I have this suspicion that Simplaform and Futurama owners are LYING here.

Okay, I take it back.

Seems an unusual mix of Baughman body and Knoll legs, but I put my money on Baughman. And who knows...they could have customized.

Futurama has his sofas made by simplaform. My wife and I bought a set of two chairs and sofa about 6 years ago and they have held up great.

This has the box sides as a chair: http://www.velocityartanddesign.com/box-armchair-c-372-p-1-pr-20991.html
and this has the box sides in a sofa: http://hivemodern.com/products/?view=sub_product&sid=2481&cid=2&cid2=4
hot, but pricey.

It looks an awful lot like the HM Goetz sofa, but that wouldn't make sense because it is a recent design...

Thanks for the link LisaSF. Fascinating that the set designer thought $5,000 was too much to shell out for Draper's vintage Knoll desk, so they rented it and they're making millions from that show. Sheesh, people on this blog have no problem dropping that much dough or more for a MCM furniture classic.

p.s. We love Mad Men.

Oh why oh why do I not live in LA with access to all the great MCM stores??

For great east coast resources try Daniel Donnelly just outside DC, if he doesn't have vintage he can make it. In many cases his pieces are better made than the original!
lightspeed posted that the chair in the foreground was Finn Juhl, while it does look similar to the fj45 I can't find the chair anywhere. Which Finn chair is it?

I found these in Texas, and moved them all the way to Utah! They need some new upholstery...the old plaid fabric does not do them any justice!

This sofa was made by Loja Designs in Venice, CA.......It's called "Framed sofa" in a Walnut body, down-envelope seats and foam wrapped back cushions.
Contact me and we can email the pictures of this exact sofa w/ the same fabric......all the same as above.
Thanks

That chair is definitely a Jydsk Møbelværk manufactured by Interform Collection in Denmark. We have one just like it. We bought it at the Alameda Antiques Fair a few years ago for $50. We've been looking for a matching one for a while. Good luck finding it!
