AT,
I'm really digging the Gus Design Group sofas, in particular the Clinton and the Audrey. I'm tempted to just order them without actually having sat in one. Has anyone been able to see them in person? Are they comfortable? I've sat in the Carter sofa, are they similar?
Thanks,
Jean

Comfort is subjective--someone a foot taller or shorter than you might think it's a comfortable sofa, but you'll be uncomfortable. People prefer different firmness, seat heights, arm heights and styles... I think sofas, perhaps more than any other piece of furniture, are really something you have to try out for yourself.

Measurements, however, are not subjective.
The spec-sheet for furniture should have seat depth (with or without back-cushions) and height. And information about cushion fill and construction.
Then try to find a floor-model sofa with similar specifications. Even though it won't be the *same* it will be less of a stab in the dark in buying something you can't test-drive.

I'll add: and you can have sofa cushion (interiors) easily switched out.
I've done that before, switched to a firmer or softer foam or down-wrapped foam or entirely down, it was about $50 for foam and up to $125 (depending on what I specified for down-wrapped foam or down). Prices are per cushion and these are usually found at a shop that does foam or custom upholstery or custom down comforters (they usually do foam as well). So now I wouldn't hesitate, with accurate measurements for what I feel is comfortable for a sofa for someone my height, to mail order since I know I can switch out cushions accordingly to adjust the comfort level. Beyond the added expense, should you find it worth it, your sofa will be cushion-less while the inserts are made (some will simply measure them and then let you take them back home).

I just visited the GUS store in NYC when I was there for the ICFF show-
I like the look of GUS, but since now All Gus items are made in China, but the quality and Tailoring has suffered from when it was made in Toronto. You aslo cannot specify firmess etc on their products
I saw a similar set at Therapy called Grace-it can be custom ordered in 200 fabrics and had 4 different sizes-may be worth while to check it out.
