AT,
How do I paint this lamp? The balls are metal, and the paint seems to be acrylic. Any suggestions for color? The furniture is white/ivory, light blue, and black.

Samantha,
We think it involves three steps: Sanding, priming, and using metal paint. But we know there are craftier types out there who can say for sure.
When it comes to colors, it depends on whether you want it to really pop, or blend in, or. . .
Anyone?
I'm a bit leary of painting a lamp like that. Some of these types of lamps may be designer made and if you paint it, you ruin it's potential value.
On the other hand, if it's a no name lamp, a knock off of a more famous one then it may well be fine but a thing to think of is that if you use anything larger than a 60W incadescent, you may discoler the paint so perhaps see if you can get something more heat resistant to paint it with.
Sanding/priming and then paint is probably all that is required I'm sure.

I love it the color it is, sell it to me. Seriously.

I tackled the same project years ago with a slightly different style lamp. The most important step is using a good primer so that your new coat of paint sticks. I didn't sand, but it your base has chips, I would recommend it.
Also, don't forget to tape the insides of the globes, the on/off knobs, and the cord where it meets the lamp. That way you have a cleaner finish.

The current color seems like it would go really well with light blue and black....

You might not want a home that matches too well.
I love the tri-colored green.
Are you sure it wouldn't work as is?

i'm not sure. i'll probably just keep the green. i can't tell if it's because the color is growing on me, or if i'm too lazy to do anything about it. i like the lamp, but it's nice to know i have options. thanks!
