Hi AT,
Do you know about the quality and services of either of sleekspaces.com or moderncollections.com? I was thinking about purchasing furniture from one of these sites.
Many Thanks, HP

I have bought some leather dining chairs from Modern Collections and I was very pleased. I got my tracking numbers when the chairs shipped and they came in great condition. I don't know anything about sleekspaces. I also purchased a Alphaville Corbusier style end table from http://www.STLLoftStyle.com who carries a lot of the items both of the companies have. It also came in excellent shape and I was very pleased with the service overall. I have been thinking about getting a sofa online but I am kind of relucatant to order something this size. Anyone have any ideas?
We had the worst on-line shopping experience of our lives with Sleekspaces. First, despite stating the items were in stock, they were not. Second, despite stating that they would return calls/emails w/in 24 hours, they do not. Third, their customer service/sales department is rude -- "what's your problem now." Fourth, they never gave the shipping company our phone number, further delaying receipt of our order. Do yourself a favor and shop somewhere else.
I would never again order anything from sleekspaces; their website provides misleading delivery dates and their customer service staff is not helpful.
After promising to refund my money for an order which I cancelled (sleekspaces notified me 5 DAYS after I placed my order that the projected delivery time for most of my furniture would be 1-2 months later than the advertised date,) sleekspaces has not yet credited the money from the cancelled order back to me (this is following several lengthy phone calls). I'm not sure how many other people have had this experience with this "company", but based on my experience, it seems like a fly-by-night operation.
I would recommend looking in the shops on Hayes Street, if you're in SF and interested in modern furniture.
Still waiting for my refund,
Bill
The worse service and experiance that I have ever had with an internet retailer. First of all most of the furniture they advertise is not in stock, you end up paying more than they website shows. Extremely rud and bad customer service.
I placed an order for Dining Chairs that they said having them in stock in the first place. I have been waiting over 3months for my order to arrive. However, after waiting 3.5months merchandise arrived in defective condition and sleekspaces refused to provide replacement or issue a refund.
THE WORSE EXPERIANCE. Do yourself a favor, never shop at www.sleekspaces.com
Be careful ordering with moderncollections.com
I placed an order for a Barcelona chair and a Noguchi coffee table and received the pieces after 14 weeks. Very poor quality: awful leather quality on Barcelona chairs.
Poor customer service, never received the tracking numbers that my order has been shipped.
Now I want to get a return authorization from them since I'm unhappy with both pieces I emailed them several time, still no reply. They don't even have a phone number....ridiculous
I was very happy with my purchase at ModernCollections.com. I must say I did not experience the service or quality issues the last poster mentioned. The 2 Barcelona chairs arrived in great condition and the overall quality better than expected (ordered black leather). I have searched several local stores and none came close in quality for the price. Tracking numbers were emailed to me about 4 days after I ordered and delivery was made 3 days after that.
I haven't shopped at Sleek Spaces yet, but it looks like I may want to avoid them.
I wouldn't shop at sleekspaces.com again even If I had a gun pointed to my head.
They shipped me the wrong parts for a bed and I have been trying to contact a customer representative for more than a week. When i finally talked to someone on the phone, they ask me to email them and hung up on me. They haven't replied to any of my 3 emails.
Save yourself some trouble and avoid dealing with the worst customer service department i've seen in my life.
Theese people suck. Never ever shop here all the comments above are correct...they dont return emails, the hold time when calling is ridiculous, and they don't have the merchandise.
I totally agree with the above comments about Sleekspaces.com. The customer service is horrible and they don't get back to you. I placed an order for a chair that was promised to me on Feb 2. When I didn't hear anything after the due date I called customer service (10 -15 min hold time). The young lady I spoke to said that she wasn't sure what the problem was and that she would investigate and get back to me. I never heard back from her after 3 days so I called back. I was then told that the vendor needed to know what color fabric to cover the chair (they only have the chair in one color fabric). I thought the matter was resolved when I got an e-mail saying that the item would be shipped by a certain date. A week after that due date, still nothing so I call Sleekspaces back to cancel the order. I was told by a rude idividual (who claimed he was not a customer service rep and only answered the phone because I was on hold so long) that the item was already wrapped by the vendor and waiting to ship out. I wanted it canceled before it got shipped. He said he wasn't sure if that was possible. When I asked to speak to a manager, I was told that none were available in the office. So I asked to be transfered to where they were; in which he replied that they had no phone lines! After hanging up on this idiot, I called back and spoke to another rep, who said that a note was placed to cancel the order, but again, he wasn't sure if it'd been shipped. I never got a call or e-mail back to inform me of the status.
BTW if you call and press the "nuber to place an order" you'll get conected to someone right away. They want your money, but they don't deliver the goods
Interesting - and alarming - comments on sleek spaces. I had a good first transaction with them. I ordered some Barcelona chairs, the arrived on time and are of excellent quality. BUT - today I cancelled an order for a Barcelona loveseat that was advertised as being in stock, but was back ordered for 6-8 weeks. I was promised a prompt credit refund....
BTW, a company to avoid is Mercantila and any of their many sister companies; I ordered furniture from them that was back ordered four or five times. They have very bad customer service, located in India. They kept promising a refund, but I finally had to file a complaint with my credit card company to get it.

Just want to add my thoughts regarding sleek spaces. This company is a total bust. By the time, and IF you get your furniture, you are so fried from getting told lies by the so called customer service people. I got a coffee table, which was really beautiful, but the glass has a flaw in it (I can live with that) but the wood base spontaneously shattered the other day. I had only had the table 7 weeks, and when I called Sleek space, they told me I had to deal direclty with the manufacturer, alphaville. I am hoping that alphaville has a higher level of customer service than sleek spaces.
As far as this website is concerned, given the overwhelmingly negative experiences most have had with sleek spaces, you may not want to provide a link to their site. They really are not a reputable company and leave customers with a bad taste in their mouth.
I wish I had something better to say.

I can add my bad experience with sleekspaces.com.
I totally agree with what's been already said in other people's experiences. It's eerily similar...They offer low prices to get you to look. Then you order, but they do not have it in stock, so the ship date is revised to a later date. Then one or two weeks go by...then delayed some more...then some more. I was understanding for about 2 months, then I was getting irritated with the lack of service, notice, information, or lack of professionalism shown by the customer service. This appears to be how they are doing business. Right now, I am trying to get my refund. They say that sleekspaces.com is part of family of Gately's furniture. I wonder if all of the other Gately owned/affiliated furniture stores are like this. I haven't had experience with the others, but I would be careful...BTW their motto makes me laugh "If the customers don't leave the store with a smile on their face, then we have failed." What a joke!!!
Avoid sleekspaces.com! There's got a be a better, quicker way to publicize such bad companies to others, so that they don't get suckered like a lot of us have. I wish I knew of these info here before using sleekspaces.com.

If your looking for Alphaville Design Barcelona chairs or any of the Alphaville line try http://www.allworldfurniture.com in San Jose. They always had atlest 2 in the showroom and a few instock when I would visit their San Jose showroom. I bought a Alphaville Design Noguchi table and Eames rosewood lounge chair two years ago and the Noguchi table was n t instock so they offered to deliver the Eames Chair they had in stock same day I bought it and delivered the table about 2 weeks later free.
They have a showroom and huge warehouse in San Jose and Iâm in San Francisco so it saved me a trip to pick it up and helped me get the chiar fast. 5 star great experience and lowest prices I have seen anywhere online.
They carry many of the same lines plus many more of high end made in Italy brands like Nicoletti, Rossetto and Calligaris and offer price match from any store even online stores nationwide. I think they can ship items faster from Alphaville and Calligaris because they have their own trucks pick up direct each week from these suppliers because Alphaville and Calligaris have warehouses also in the San Francisco Bay Area.
I am now looking for the Arco style floor lamp. They said they have black or white marble ones instock so Iâll let you know how they do. This will be shipped to my Niece in Hawaii which they said they can do no prob. Please let me know if anyone has bought from http://www.allworldfurniture.com. From my experience and a few of my friends they have all been positive.

I have been a confident online shopper...until now :-/
I stumbled upon this page as I scoured the internet for a phone number to CANCEL my order from moderncollections.com. ... so you can guess where this one is going.
Just like other posters, they had exactly what I wanted to buy at a reasonable price so I proceeded with the transaction. I got a confirmation email almost immediately, but NOTHING after that. I emailed for shipping details and was met with no reply. Not good, but maybe their systems are just slow....could happen to any business....right?
So I tried another approach. Believing that the phone number for moderncollections.com had to be somewhere on the internet, I proceeded to google-it-up for hours. Finally, I had to ask myself "Q: What business does not have a listed phone number these days???" A: One that does not want to be contacted without the option of being evasive. Also not good.
In the end, I did manage to find out that the address provided by moderncollections.com is the location for a MailBoxes Etc in California (not even a warehouse or store front). What does that say to me [the buyer]??? Not good...yet again.
So, long story short, I would not recommend ordering from moderncollections.com unless you are a gambling man (or woman) looking for a furniture thrill.
I am off to copy my cancellation emails for my credit card company.... Thanks to all the other posters who have helped to heighten my awareness about issues that arise from online shopping. The BBB report doesn't always give the complete picture. Now I know what to look out for.

I just cancelled my order with Sleekspaces.com. Everything posted about them is true - no response to email, phone is always busy. Today I got through, and got an automated message saying they still have phone problems, and to send an email!
The only thing they did in a timely manner was charge my Amex. Thankfully I did use Amex, so I don't have to pay for a dining room table that I didn't get.
I have learned my lesson - never buy online without googling the company first.

I have contacted sleekspaces numerous times. No one has bothered to contact me via phone or email. I was expecting a refund 2 months ago and I am pissed off. I don't know what kind of scam this is, I am trying to report this company to the BBB. I have been dealing with this bullshit for almost 1 year now. I was promised my merchandise six months ago. They had failed to contact me about my money, now I have neither. My money was to be deposited back into my account 2 month ago. I have not yet to receive it. I tried to find an address and no success. If any one knows please post it.

Wow, talk about horror stories. I have never purchased anything from them. inmod.com carries a lot of similar merchandise and has a super friendly and knowledgeable staff that actually picks up the phone when I call. Give them a shot, I think you will be happy.

I think they filed Chapter 11.

I had a horrible experience with these guys. I posted my experience on www.complaintsboard.com and then got an email from another furniture company saying they were helping out swindled Sleek Spaces customers. The company was Paradigm Gallery (www.pgmod.com) and according to their customer reps, they've been flooded with former Sleek Spaces customers. They have the same items at Paradigm, so I bought Corbusier chairs, which arrived in 3 days, perfect condition.

I'd be wary of placing any orders with moderncollections.com ... apparently Knoll is taking them to court.
