Good Questions: Looking for a Credenza Like This...

credenzaquestion120408.jpgI am trying to find a short credenza to put my 37" television on. I would like to find a credenza that's less than two feet tall because much taller would make the television more imposing than it already is. I have been searching on craigslist, ebay and various furniture dealers/websites with no luck...

A few weeks ago apartment therapy posted this picture and the credenza on the top right is EXACTLY what I am looking for. Can anyone either ID this and or tell me where I could find one or something like it? Thank you so much!

Can you help out Rosemary with some info or suggestions? Let us know...

I believe EQ3 has similar ones like that.

Perhaps you might find a credenza where you could replace the feet/legs with shorter ones (or omit them completely) to reduce the height of the unit.

If you are in the Bay area- send the picture to some of the local mid century stops to see if they have one or if getting one in..I have seen this style a dozen times.

Past Perfect on Union and their bigger store on Lombard, Past Perfect II
The Other Shop- on Divisadero
Mickey's Monkey- Lower Haight
Touch- on Valencia

Couple more in the East Bay and Marin

These places have a bit more down to earth prices and a good time to negotiate.

Finding something exactly like that one under 24" high is going to be tough - more typical is going to be 28" (which is what the pictured credenza is likely to be) - so I'd suggest being flexible, but continuing your search because they're out there...

...such as these from Room Service:

I had a similar problem and looked all over.

After a lot of looking and with some reluctance, I ended up with this--by far the cheapest solution that I'd encountered-- in black-brown:

I modified the spacing so that A/V components fit properly. You can add legs to this too, if you'd like.

There's also this (21 5/8" deep was too deep for the space I had available):

It looks great and I don't regret the decision.

i think it's been on this very site several times-- but some crafty handy AT-er's have just stuck feet on an IKEA Lack (or was it Billy?) shelf to make their t.v. stands...

i have a credenza under my window that is very short, because it's original use was for sitting atop the main credenza...does that make sense? A lot of them come in two pieces, with the top having glass doors instead of wood, but it's just as sturdy and has lots of storage.

I have been searching for a media console as well, but something less modern, actually. But you might like some things here:

We got an awesome one from CB2 that is bright orange (they call it lobster). Might be a tad taller than you are looking for, but you could look there and see if they have anything else. Their store downtown is semi-convenient and you can buy floors models.

It looks almost exactly like it's from the angela adams furniture line...like one of the pieces from 5-6 years ago. You can look at anglelaadams.com and see some of the stuff from the new line, but it's super-hyper expensive.

Not cheap, but similar with tambour doors:

there are a few places on valencia street in the mission district that carry vintage danish modern type credenzas. I think one place is called "touch" or something on valencia and 20th. Also, I bought a credenza I love for $100 at Clar's auction house in oakland a few years ago. they have auctions open to the public every first weekend of the month.

Also check out DWR's Sapporo units, which are configurable. Alas, only in snow white, but they are still lovely.
