Good Questions: Looking for Name of this IKEA Chair...

gary070909.jpgGary is looking for some info. He writes: I'm hoping either you or your readers can help me out (that's silly...of COURSE they'll come through). I'm looking for the model name of a discontinued IKEA chair (photo attached). It's a round, bentwood swivel chair with nubby bluish fabric...

It has a rounded back, round seat, and blonde bentwood legs. I have 3 of these chairs, but would like to search for another one to "round" out my collection. Thanks in advance for your assistance.

Who wins the prize for IKEA knowledge? If you know the name, please let Gary know in the comments below...

It's the FRIDENE swivel chair - made in 2005 but not currently available. eBay used to be a great source of slipcovers for the upholstered components of this chair but since it's not in current production I can't seem to find them anymore. I have two of these chairs in orange. You can see the chair in an old AT House Tour: http://www.apartmenttherapy.com/sf/house-tours/sf-house-tour-lorena-estebans-modern-yet-folksy-abode-028290

I used to manage a retail store and these chairs were at one of the locations I ended up taking over. Unfortunately, the visual team offered them to the former and absolutely horrible manager, thinking no one else would want them. I was furious!

Such a cute chair. Why does IKEA torment me like this? Every so often, thier designers come up with something brilliant; then, they discontinue the item. I've been coveting a $99 clear, acrylic dining chair on bent, silvertone legs. It looks like lucite on chrome. I suppose I should go buy the chairs.

Planned obsolescence: That's how they get people to come in the store and buy more crap every year.

I love that chair too and was unable to get one. You might consider this substitute:

Sitcom's Komet has an dorable, tufted seat (one big button in the center) and great orange color. I have two, and I love them.

That link that mwzoe gave shows a chair that I am almost entirely sure is the exact same chair at urban outfitters:

Anyone know if they're actually different? I suspect the same manufacturer.

The IKEA chair is actually a pretty brazen knock-off of a Scandy design... forget which, but I'm sure it will come back to me a couple of weeks from now...

Hear, hear bepsf!

Hi, Chester Shoeshine.

Same chair. I bought the orange one two years ago. Sitcom has since come out with the chocolate colored model at Urban Outfitters. $200 is a great price. I first saw it at a boutique for over $340. I paid closer to $240 online.
