Copenhagen's sister company Denmarket has a lot of sectionals that are similar to this and at a way more affordable price ;) .... not as stunning ... but a good place to start ...I just looked on their website though and the one that I am thinking of is not pictured :(

I highly suggest finding an independent furniture maker. We have one in town who makes perfect (often better quality) replicas of any couch out there, or she will help you design your own. She typically knocks off about a third of the price.

I believe the Kramfors series from Ikea has similar lines. The arm rests are a little lowered, but it's a much cheaper alternative!

The Karlstad collection from Ikea is customizable, and you should be able to get what you want out of it, for a heck of a lot cheaper!

I have the Ikea Karlstad, which is rather nice for the price. You can do a couch / lounge combo.

Have you checked out the KLEIN sectional from ROOM AND BOARD?

There's also a custom sofa manufacturer called VAN GOGH DESIGNS...I don't know if they sell direct to customer - but they had something similar that I've seen in a store.

I was going to suggest the IKEA karlstad as well. There have been a few "good questions" regarding it on AT as well.

West Elm (Armless) and CB2 (Annex) have similar sectionals, the major difference being that both are armless and modular in nature. IKEA also has a sectional (Karlstad) that would be the most affordable option. It was surprisingly comfortable too (at least the one without the pull-out bed option, that one was hard as a rock). Alas, the fabric options are limited with IKEA! I have the CB2 annex sectional and it is working out quite well.

We got a couch through Stendmar.com. They have a ton of sectionals and they can do custom orders very easily. We are pleased with the style, quality and the communication.

Are in in the Bay Area? There is the mid century store on Collage Ave. in Rockridge district in Oakland. I cannot remember the store name.

I was in there before the holidays and saw a similar sofa in this store, the owner said he can make custom sizes. It is so gorgeous and I thought the price was reasonable too.
I remember being really impressed with the way it sat and the overall quaility was very good.

The Annex set from CB2 is a direct knock-off of Neo. Or try Chiasso for single pieces with similar lines.

I have two pieces of Neo, and the quality is top-notch. If you can find the coin to go for it, it's a good investment.

The Delaney at Crate and Barrel (http://www.crateandbarrel.com/family.aspx?c=960&f=25940) is still on the expensive side, but looks similar and I can definitely vouch for the fabric. During their custom upholstery, I ended up covering the Troy, which I'm sad about having chosen b/c it's too short, in the default fabric for the Delaney and the fabric is still fantastic--soft and velvety but doesn't show handprints like microfiber/something with a longer nap would (I'm too OCD for those kinds of fabric),

i'm happy with my Ikea Kramfors...not the most comfy couch ever, but it looks hot. bad for sleeping on, though.

we have the ikea karlstad... in white with the chase, and we love it! its not exactly the same, but a nice, cheap option.

i know karlstad has been mentioned many times on AT before, but just wanted to say again how much we love it.
it was super cheap, the covers are easily washable, and its totally comfortable.

Costco has a sectional that is remarkably similar to this one for a little more than 2k. I saw it yesterday at my local costco, and it looks quite sturdy and clean-lined--a real departure from their normal furniture offerings. (And no, you don't have to be a costco member to purchase things from their website).

Am I alone in being somewhat pissed off by a company that calls itself "Design Within Reach" selling a couch for $5000?

There is this one place based out of Miami that sell affordable sofas and sectionals...there is one that is called Fred or Frank and it is only $1300 with an ottoman. The place is called The Loft Sofas.

To follow up the KARLSTAD suggestions, you can also add metal legs for an extra 25 dollars to get the right look

Yikes, that Ikea lamp is not a "knockoff" of the DWR Spun lamp. Similar dimensions maybe, but nobody will mistake one for the other, which is what I always thought the point of a knockoff was.

You've entered a long-running AT discussion about Design Within Reach. DWR's name does not imply afforadability, but rather that anyone with the financial means can purchase products that previously were only available from architects and designers and not through retail channels.

well, herman miller and knoll won which is why dwr now sells licensed (expensive) pieces BUT still sells to the public - not to the trade only, keeping the name design within reach 'technically' albeit barely relevant...

Wow, that Alchemy sofa is very close to Neo! A direct copy.

About DWR, sometimes you can beat their prices by a bit at Highbrowfurniture.com, which doesn't charge for shipping or (I think) tax in California. They carry Herman Miller and Knoll. They are much nice to deal with, in my experience, than DWR. Easy returns, if that proves necessary.
