Good Questions: Paint Colors in This House Tour?

10-9-good q1.jpg

AT,

I am curious about the paint colours, and brands, for Julie and Andrew's place that was in one of your photo tours. I'm especially interested in what appears to be a light green colour in the door photo, the mustard colour in the workroom photo, and the blue in the kitchen photo...

...What technique did they use to get that effect in the kitchen?

Thanks in advance,

Scott

Scott,

Julie responded with the following information:

1. The color in the door photo [above the jump] is actually a warm gray. The adjacent wall is the mustard color and it warms it up even more. We used Benjamin Moore Classic Color 1535 Seattle Mist.

2. The color in the workroom photo is the mustard color in the same room. It's Benjamin Moore Color Preview color 2160-30 Maple Sugar.

3. Ahhh....the kitchen. A bit more complex. The "blue" of the kitchen is not blue at all. It's chalkboard paint. I mixed Benjamin Moore black chalkboard paint with Rustoleum green chalkboard paint (more black than green when mixing). They were mixed in the paint tray with no scientific measurements from batch to batch as I painted. With chalkboard paint, it needs to "cure" for 3 days before you draw. My goal was to have a very uneven washy feel, so after the curing, I drew on the entire wall with the side of white sticks of chalk. Then cleaned the chalk off with a slightly damp sponge. The more the sponge wipes the more smeary the chalk gets which exactly what I wanted. I've kept the same sponge to clean off the wall in between drawings. My thought was that if it's uneven, I'd be more likely to randomly sketch and not feel like sketches needed to be perfect.

Thanks, Julie!

I love this apt also! While you are at it, can you give the paint colors for the rust/orange in in the bedroom. And is the accent wall in the living room also the Seattle mist gray? Overall, I really love the warmth of the pallete of your place.
