Good Questions: Recommendations for a Lamp Similar to Spun?

4-13-goodq.jpgAT,

Where can I find a floor lamp similar to the DWR Spun Floor Lamp, but cheaper? It's so hard to find another lamp that has a white base. Any ideas?

Thanks!

Elaine

Elaine,

Have you seen the Soiree Floor Lamp from Lights Up? (It's at Design Public and 2Modern.)

Anyone else?

Is it just me, or even $319 for the Soiree Lamp is still too much?

Sure, but an 80% drop in price from that other dwr lamp is a significant difference. Over $1100 less.

This base is derived from the iconic Laurel mushroom base from the 60's 70's:

Laurel had a version of this base with a standard lampshade harp on the top, almost identical to the DWR lamp above (and very likely it's inspiration). It came in solid colors with matching shade. I've seen red, yellow, black, and white. These pop up on ebay from time to time, the original shade long gone. They go quite cheap, less than $100. If you can wait and spend the time on ebay then just get a new shade and spray paint to match the base.

I'm asking you what is so special about that lamp. Iconic you say? Boring I say. Look at this and tell me you prefer that thing: http://gumps.com/jump.jsp?itemID=8421&itemType=PRODUCT&path=1%2C2%2C6%2C155%2C736&iProductID=8421
