Good Questions: Searching for Staxx

staxx121208.jpgRed sent us an email:A few years ago, we purchased an 8-piece set of Crate and Barrel Staxx dishes thinking that their ubiquity would be an almost "open stock" plan (i.e.: replacement pieces readily available). However, C+B has discontinued Staxx and there's none to be found anywhere: C+B outlets, online, eBay, Craigslist, replacement shops, etc... we need to replace just one small cereal bowl (i.e.: not the large ones that pop up on eBay)... any idea where to find one?

Well, it doesn't look like they have Staxx, but edish is a company based here in SLC and you can request patterns for them to look for. Seems like they have a lot of other Crate and Barrel lines though, too bad I don't see the Staxx.

A friend in Paris thought to do the same thing by going to a store that only sold white plates. Then they discontinued or ran out of her favorite when she needed extra. So she just bought some that looked good paired with the ones she had. Every other plate is from one set; then the other. You can set a fabulous table that way. And you don't have to freak about them not matching - they aren't suppose to. Then next time.. do the same thing

I used to work at C&B, and there was an 800 number you could call if you had any of the china patterns and needed to replace them after they'd been discontinued. It wasn't guaranteed that they'd have something, but they'd put you on a list and contact you when they found what you needed (either through extra shipment, someone returning it at a store, etc). I don't know if Staxx falls under the same category, but it would be worth it to call and find out. Any C&B store would have the 800 number.

Just go to Replacements.com http://www.replacements.com/webquote/CBLSTAX.htm
Also that way you have a source in case you break any more of your dishes.

The CB site has Staxx in the outlet section... they even have the cereal bowl!

Rather that exasperate yourself finding that one matching plain white cereal bowl...

(When was the last time 8 of you sat down to have cereal at your house?)

...why not use this as an opportunity to branch out and begin collecting vintage pieces in coordinating patterns that will make your table more interesting and unique?

i dunno. i'm more concerned with what the food looks like than i am in having an interesting table. food just looks best on a very minimalist white plate. i got the most boring white porcelain dishes i could find, and also thought they'd be carried forever... nothing's broken yet *knocking wood*

thanks for the responses... the staxx are indeed nice as they "stack" well together. good for ones with limited cabinet space.

re: matching dishes // i'm the guy who buys two of everything at the grocery store and lines them up side-by-side as they go down the conveyor -- in order of size, the perishability and then color. they likely make pills for this, but... (i *need* matching dishes)

re: replacements // tried them... they sent the large bowl and can't seem to find a small one... (anyone need an extra large bowl?)

re: outlet // this is the new staxx pattern (not the older, original)... while i actually like it better than the old one, i've a 98% complete set of staxx-1... and not the $300 to convert to staxx-2

re: 800 number // i'll give it a shot. the folks at the walnut creek c b (and downtown sf) were less than helpful in trying to alleviate my exasperation.

How big is the "big" bowl you got on accident? I got an almost complete set of Staxx from a garage sale, but it only has one size of bowl. They seem like huge bowls to me (and cups and plates, etc.) but if they're the right size, I'd be happy to sell one.

Hey wait wait, there's - by big bowls do you mean the size that are often called pasta bowls? (for one serving) I would LOVE more of those - only have 6 - would buy 4 more. And I'd like 2 to 4 more plates as well. are you sure they are original staxx? Maybe people know this - but the Staxx 2 are different - espec the bowls. Plates LOOK similar - I tried some, but color of Staxx 2 are whiter/brighter. Let me know if you're willing to sell. Thanks so much! Kelly

Hey, sorry folks, I forgot I had posted here, and maybe this is too late, but I'm happy to send anyone staxx bowls til I run out (which will be pretty soon).

I do not know how to tell the difference between staxx original and staxx 2 bowls, nor between the supposed sizes. The bowls I have are about 7 in across. I have tons of plates, both sizes. And a bunch of those ridiculously enormous mugs, like in the picture. (I tried to find pics of staxx 2, and my mugs definitely don't look like the mugs that come up for s2, so I think that's a good sign).

The Staxx are good looking, and I was pleased to find them at the garage sale, but I now believe their jumbo size is contributing to my unstoppable weight-gain. :)

Currently on craigslist - orange county or email me at ehdesign@cox.net. Replacements Ltd. has no stock in this pattern. Would like to sell whole set, but will consider individual pieces.
