Good Questions: Similar Table to the BJURSTA in SF?

bjurstaround121508.jpgYuri writes: I found this table at IKEA, it's called the BJURSTA round table. It's a black/brown round extension table with built in leaf, so you don't need to store. Unfortunately, they are sold out and have been for months with no plan of re-order. It's not sold on craigslist, ebay, anywhere! Help!

I need to find a dining table that's not too $$$$, in the black/brown color (I have very warm cherry wood flooring and anything else would look too washed out). I have lived in SF for a while, but for the life of me can't think of anywhere else to look for a table like this? Pottery Barn, Crate and Barrel, Macy's and Scan Design and struck out in all those. Any local ideas that I'm not thinking of or don't know about? I'd like to purchase before Christmas so my guests have a place to sit and eat! HELP!

Any ideas for local shops to try?

Yuri, don't be too bummed about the IKEA table. I have it in the yellow-brown color, and it's not the greatest. The leaf extension thing works well, but the quality and appearance of the table is mediocre. I'm saving up for something nicer.

P.S. Have you tried Overstock, Home Decorators and the CSN stores online?

I have the Bjursta dining table in the rectangular configuration and it's been really great. We can fit a ton of people around it and always get compliments on it. We put it with this chair: http://www.ikea.com/us/en/catalog/products/S39842533

Do they still have the rectangular one at your IKEA or do you have your heart set on the oval one?

I had the oval/round one and returned it. It weighed like a billion pounds and required more than one person to open it and/or close it, and it scratched my wood floors when doing so. It wasnt that great.

It reminds me of Calligaris Atelier table. There's oval and round, both extendable. I don't know about the availability near you, but you should be able to shop online. Good luck!

look on Craigslist by typing in various finishes..

I just bought a table off Craigslist in a too light for my taste finish, but its a sold wood table so I have plans to refinish it after the holidays - in the mean time I'll cover it with a table cloth!

Or you could go uber cheap and get a folding table for your guests..

honestly, if you want something that is going to last - i wouldn't go the ikea route. i went to the store and looked at it, and thought no way.

i ended up going to california bar stools and kitchenettes - they have a great selection of dining sets there in San Carlos (they even have a larger showroom in san jose if you're willing to trek down there).

i found a round pedestal style table that extends to a good size oval with four chairs. you'll want the pedestal - it makes it very easy to extend and won't scratch wood floors either. here is a pictures of what i got (similar): http://www.diningroomsdirect.com/Lifestyle-California-77631-LC1523.html
