Hello AT,

Dear Annee,
Prices for (and quality of) glass subway tiles, which are popular now in bathrooms and kitchens, seem to vary widely.
Jill (from AT NY) says: "I actually bought white ones for the bathroom at Home Depot for $1.20/sq. ft. But higher quality tiles are available online. They are featured in an early Inside Out house tour, Amy's Micro-Palace, and Amy says where she got them."
Home Depot does not sell their tiles online, but here are two places that do:
• Amy's source, SubwayTile, sells them in 5 sq.ft bundles, at $10/sq.ft.
• Mosaic Tile sells them for $22.95/sq. ft.
We'll be curious to hear what you decide to go with and how you like them.

Update 01/08: Please see our Best Subway Tile Sources.
Dal Tile makes a 3x6 subway tile that is called Rittenhouse Square. Dal Tile can be ordered through Home Depot or can be found at some tile stores. If you have a contractor's license or have a contractor who would be willing to buy for you, Dal Tile has a warehouse in South San Francisco. I would count on around $4.00-$4.50/sq.foot retail.
i did my bathroom in 3x6 subway tiles a couple of years ago. i got the lanka tiles from the tile shop in berkeley for under $10/sq ft. can't remember exactly, but i think it was in the $6-8 range. the tiles are beautiful & their customer service was exceptional. click my name for the link to images of the tile on their site.
if you're on a supertight budget & don't need much customer service, best tile inc on bayshore blvd in sf seems to have some of the cheapest tiles in town. don't know if they have subway tile or not though.
I don't think that best tile has subway tile, but floor depot at 1201 Minnesota (off 23rd) in SF does carry it in stock.
Hi Annee,
If you're in the Bay Area, Tile Shop in Berkeley has some decent subway tiles from Turkey that I used for a showroom display recently. I believe the price was about $2-$3 per sq. It's pretty nice.
i found my info for the lanka subway tiles at tile shop in berkeley. i paid $2.96/sq ft. way lower than i remembered!
Due to all the info here, I went to Tile Shop in Berkeley. They had nice choices of Subway Tile, beveled and Handmade ones among others.
I chose their cheapest one, Lanka is the brand.
I splurged on accents of Glasstile and Stainless Steel tile.
This was my first tiling project and it went very well.
Tile Shop staff was very helpful, their stuff is really well chosen and I think they are worth taken a detour to.
I'm looking for a 3x6 & 4x4 subway tile in bark brown. Please let me know if you know where I can locate. It's for a retro house being built in the next 4 months.
Import Tile in Berkeley has two lines: Horus which has a red clay and F_100 smooth which has a white clay. They also have lots of liners etc. and all the other standad prewar stuff like honycomb floor tile etc.
