Hi AT!
I'm decorating my bare walls, and would love to hang a large embroidered canvas like this above my sofa. Any tips on where I can find something like this, or make my own?
Thanks!!
Jeannette

Hi Jeannette,
We think you should make your own. You'll get exactly what you want and learn how to embroider in the process. Seems like a pretty basic project, and there are plenty of crafty ATers out there who can provide some pointers. Anyone?
(You can also try Etsy for something ready-made by someone else.)
I have to agree with using Etsy. If I tried to make that myself, my walls would stay bare.
I love to embroider, and it's actually quite easy to learn (I swear!). Check out http://sublimestitching.com/ for kits and nifty patterns.
Jeanette,
We have a little gallery on Polk Street that only shows work from local artists. Two come to mind for your project--one who uses a lot of embroidery in her pictures, many of which include birds, as well as a painter whose done a series of crows that look eerily like your example. If you want to discuss either option, just give me a ring.
Good luck,
Jennifer

A friend of mine makes her own t-shirt designs. She sketches out a design or pattern, traces it onto fabric, then runs the design through her sewing machine with an embroidery stitch option. You could do the same thing with a bright white canvase or linen, then stretch it over regular artist canvas stretchers.
