Hi, I've got a Russell Woodard Sculptura wire mesh chair that I would like to repaint myself. I'm assuming spray paint would be best. What paint and what finish -- satin, semi-gloss, gloss -- would be most similar to the original? Thanks,
-Susan

Anyone?
If you're concerned about the longevity and uniformity of the finish, your best bet is to have the chair powder-coated. It's not expensive, and you can pick just about any color you like.

I would actually steer clear of spray paints - on slick finishes, they can end up forever tacky (as in to the touch). Use a primer specifically for metal, making sure you brush or scrape off any peeling paint first, then use an enamel; anything designed for outdoor use probably won't require a protective finish.

If you do use spray paint, I HIGHLY suggest using Valspar brand. I have been working on several projects with spray paint covering everything from ceramics, wood, metal, and plastic. It leaves a smooth, gorgeous coat. I choose gloss, personally.
RustOleum leaves way too many bubbles and doesn't apply as evenly. Do yourself a favor, avoid that brand. I never knew there was a difference. RustOleum makes an item looked spray painted; Valspar does not. I honestly think it resembles the touch and look of powder coating.

Thanks so much for your help! I will try the Valspar -- powder-coating in these parts costs around $100.
