Good Questions: Upholsterer for an Eames Lounge Chair?
San Francisco

10-31-eames.jpgGreetings AT:SF, I live in Oakland and recently picked up an Eames lounge knock off in need of some TLC. I was wondering if anyone there could recommend a good upholsterer anywhere in the Bay Area. SF/East Bay preferred. Many thanks!

There's a guy who has a shop at the foot of Franklin at Market - I forget the name but he specializes in midcentury furniture reupholstering and restoring

I also submitted a similar question question to AT a while ago, which was not posted.

I purchased a high quality Eames repro several months ago. The chair has a small rip in the leather, and the plywood could use a new finish.

Would anyone have any suggestions for the New York City/Northern New Jersey area? I live in Hoboken, and would love to get this chair reupholstered and refinished.

Any ideas on a local spot where I could this done, and about how much this should set me back?

Any help would be greatfully appreciated!

I haven't used this place, but I heard somewhere that they were good: http://www.bandtupholstery.com/about.aspx
They're in Sacramento but pick up and deliver to the Bay Area.

Another poster (Lori J) shared this referral with me recently. She says that Mike used to do automotive upholstery and now does reasonably priced furniture work--specializing in Eames, etc. Hope this helps! Here 'tis:

You can try Klassik by Lynne in Emeryville.

Lynne works with an independent upholster. We've seen good examples of his craft and he is currently re-upholstering some Eames pieces for us.

Their fabric and material selection is good as well.
