Good Questions: Who Made my Purple Sofa?

2006_12_22_purple.jpg

Hi AT,

Do you know who made this couch? I bought it from a co-worker who bought it from another co-worker. It has no tags and I haven't been able to find it in image searches.

Thanks,
Laura

Are you in San Francisco, Laura? That sofa looks a lot like ones that were running loose (okay, in captivity) in a couple of stores in the SoMa furniture district, back when we were sofa-shopping in 2004. My first candidate would be the big SoMa store that also has lighting.

That's a SOMA Sofa.

To expand on Wende's comments:
I would also check in with a furniture store in Berkeley called Uniq Images-located on University @ Milvia. That loos like their style of merchandise.

Also look at Customs House on 9th between Howard and Folsom. I actually think it's one of their models called the Alex:

Dunno, but I bet Pee Wee Herman does!

I know this is not directly answer to your question but I knew I saw similar sofa somewhere...not exact same sofa but it is of same style (you could almost call it copy)...

Thanks! Yes, I'm in SF. It looks like the Alex. I'll check out the SOMA page as soon as their server recovers.

It's a great sofa (Pee Wee Herman - grrr) and even a 6ft person can sleep on it comfortably. It can be a bit of a nightmare to move though.

The Soma Sofa site is still broken (bad us), but I found a nice pic of the inside on Flickr. It's my sofa's long-lost family. Must visit!

I think I saw one like it on funkysofa.com. They had a lot of fun ones. I would absolutely love it in burgundy......

The couch was designed by Dr. Seuss in 1973, in collaboration with Willy Wonka.

I'm fairly certain it's by Urbana, which is sold at a few SOMA stores. http://www.urbanafurniture.com/furniture.php?furid=31&typeid=12

I'll chime in with the agreement of Urbana, which is sold at SOMA.

That looks like the famous Yahoo! couch:

I went to visit Soma Sofa. It's the Urbana Alexandria. Yahoo! has the Alexandria chairs and a slightly different, less swoopy-backed sofa. Yay, it's famous (ish) =)

I love their furniture, but it's pretty expensive. Might just have to focus on cleaning the cat fur off this one.
