Good Questions: Who Will Buy Our Parents' Table?

8-24-scan.jpg

Hello AT,

In a few days, my girlfriend and I are flying to San Francisco from New York to empty out her elderly parents' house, so it can be rented. Their possessions include a wonderful Danish modern dining table, purchased in the 1970s. It's in mint condition, includes six matching chairs with black-leather padding, and a leaf that expands the table to seat six...

We're donating most of the furniture in the house to charity, but we'd like to find a store that would buy or consign the dining table. Since we don't live in S.F., we don't know where to look and would be very grateful for any suggestions or leads.

Thanks, Rob

PS. Please post this if you can -- we'll arrive in S.F. on Friday evening. Thanks!

Anyone have ideas for Rob? Better yet, anyone want to buy the set?

I looks lovely - may I ask how much it is? I think that both Past Perfect or X21 would be very interested. Or, The Apartment.

Past Perfect (415) 929-7651 (in Cow Hollow, on Union st.)

X21 (415) 647-4211 (on Valencia in the Mission)

Victoria and Carol, I don't know what a fair price would be. So maybe this is another good chance to call on the expertise of AT readers.

Assuming everything is mint, what would be a fair price? Table is teak, was purchased in the '70s, has a leaf that expands it to seat six comfortably, and includes six matching chairs with black leather bottoms.

Rob, I just recently purchased a similar Danish Mid Century dining table in mint condition for $450 on craigslist.

Hope this helps

I was thinking around $500, Grace, based on what I see in NY shops, so thanks for your recommendation.

After talking it over, we've decided to have a house sale on Sunday afternoon, from 1 to 6 p.m. I'm going to post the details here, and also on Craigslist. I've never seen the house, and my girlfriend can't recall everything that's still there, but the contents include: piano (don't know what kind), more Danish mod furniture (teak coffee table and end table, credenza, two armchairs), and other necessary miscellanies, from a fax machine to an alarm clock. Come have a look. And bring cash!

Rob & Gabriela's house sale
1719 18th Ave, between Moraga and Noriega
Sunset district of San Francisco
Sunday, August 27, 2006: 1 to 6 p.m.

I'll check back here again in the morning, to see if anyone wants to put in a claim on the table. You can also email me here:
