Hi AT:SF, You guys always have so many great ideas for DIY but I'm wondering if you have any furniture makers/refinishers that you can recommend in the Bay Area. My husband and I just recently moved to SF and bought an antique french table on craigslist. However, it needs a little work and we're not qualified! Any suggestions/recommendations from you or your readers would be much appreciated! Thanks.

Great looking piece! Is the veneer chipping, or does the wood just need sprucing up? If you don't have any structural problems, start by applying Olde English. It's basically just oil that revitalizes the wood, but it makes scratches less noticable. I've often been able to revive antiques with just some elbow grease.
P.S. Thank you for not asking whether you should paint it white.

Thanks AT:SF and Lisa H - thats all a good place to start. I need a refinisher to secure the legs and smooth out some scratches. Anyone else with recommendations? Would prefer not to spend big bucks!

I HIGHLY recommend
Andrew Carter Woodside

He is really talented and does not use nasty chemicals. He brought a mid century dining set that I inherited back to life from the dead!

I think it's amazingly gorgeous. It's SUCH a beautiful antique that it almost seems somehow modern? I have no idea what I mean by that, but I think it's worth some attention. Impossible to see whatever flaws you're seeing, so I'm hoping the Olde English (or something) might be sufficient.
