Hi AT:SF,
I love the shape of this dining chair. It's a set of 8 that's selling for about $200, but obviously needs to be reupholstered. I'm thinking a wool in the same baby blue color. Can you give me an idea of how much it would cost to reupholster with and without my own fabric?
Thank you,
Shing-Hwa
Shing-Hwa,
You might want to contact one or more of the upholsterers mentioned in this SF Good Questions: Recommendations for Chair Reupholsterers? and ask them.
Anyone else?

Last time I had a similar chair re-upholstered it was approximately $200 but mine had some tufting.

I think the fabric you chose will really make a difference. I think upholstery fabric is at least $25/yard and the wool you want is probably more but I'm just guessing. You could try to figure out how many yards each chair will take and that might give you a starting point for materials. If you want the backs and fronts to match, it might be a lot of fabric.

Try Retrospect Custom Upholsterers on Market Street (at Gough) - Take your photo to them and ask them for a quote with the fabric you want.

i second retrospect. they do great work and were the lowest of three quotes i got for a pair of club chairs. i got the fabric at sal beressi on bryant.

just take a measuring tape and start at the end all the way to the bottom of back. it's all about the material you choose, if you go to an upholstery shop they make money out of the material you buy from them. it looks easy to do yourself , i learned by myself just by following the present upholstery and take pics as you start taking off the material. if it is wobbly you need to go all the way to the frame and start fixing the loose joints with glue, screws, and or nail. go for it!! it is the most rewarding hobby i have ever had.
