SF Good Questions: Online Furniture Retailers?

2-15-good q2.jpg

AT:SF, I live in Salt Lake City, far from the bricks & mortar retailers listed in the shopping guide. Salt Lake is very limited when it comes to things fashion forward... so I do a lot of shopping online. Other than these online furniture retailers mentioned by AT readers, who am I missing?...

  • cb2
  • crate and barrel
  • design public
  • design within reach
  • ikea
  • pier one
  • pottery barn
  • restoration hardware
  • room and board
  • west elm
  • williams sonoma home
  • world market

    thanks!
    Kim

PS - I should have added "affordable." I would consider R&B reasonable for the quality and design, but restoration hardware and williams sonoma overpriced to fund their marketing budgets.

    Kim,

Wow, that's a humdinger of a question. These spring immediately to mind:

  • Circa50
  • Hive Modern
  • Inmod
  • Nova68
  • Re:modern
  • Sundance
  • 2Modern
  • Unica Home
  • Velocity Art & Design

    Anyone else?

Ballard Designs stuff is supposed to be well-made and they have good sales.

    Wisteria

    Good old etsy.

i've been disappointed by DWR and by 2modern. i would recommend highbrowfurniture.com as an alternative if you're looking for ubiquitous designer items (eames, starck, nelson, noguchi, gehry, etc.). their service is great and when you factor in the free shipping, they beat most everyone's prices.

ylighting.com (with their price match gaurantee, great service, and selection, they are really hard to beat)

    Craigslist
    BluDot

And although you can't purchase from the site, there's a retailer in Salt Lake City for EQ3

I would avoid UnicaHome. Do a quick search and you will see why. We ordered something, told it was on it's way repeatedly and a few weeks before delivery, woops, we made a mistake, it actually is not available anymore ... GO FIGURE!

"is martha stewart furniture available online?"

Martha Stewart furniture is made by Bernhardt and often sold through Macy's - and if you think that William Sonoma Home is expensive, this is in the same league.

Some more possibilities - please note, I have not bought anything from any of these myself, and therefore can't vouch for them:

It's hard to beat Room and Board for the quality and value proposition.

    http://www.roomandboard.com

Restoration Hardware is completely overpriced. Williams-Sonoma Home is ridiculously overpriced.

Crate and Barrel has a lot of the same vendors as Room and Board, and they a lot of great, classic looks that are exclusive to them.

    http://www.crateandbarrel.com

I was in New York last week and had a chance to check out CB2, Crate and Barrel's little brother. It's definitely worth a shot for the budget minded folks. The quality is clearly inferior to Crate, but you will also be paying 33% less.

    http://www.cb2.com

High Fashion Home is a pretty cool site. They've got a lot of unique and eclectic styles. Think Crate and Barrel with a larger selection and slightly edgier looks.

There is a really nice shop that had opened maybe a year ago on 700 East and somewhere between 1000 and 2100 south. The owner used to do design and decided to open her own shop. Mostly they did wall coverings and assorted decorative items. I think they were called Wall (could be way off on the name).

Sorry that the details are sketchy, I passed by the store when I was visiting SLC. I was very impressed with the shop.

Another plug for highbrowfurniture. I placed a very large order with them a couple of years ago when I was furnishing my place, and the service was fantastic.

I have to disagree about the comment re:2Modern. I have made several purchases from this site and all have been great experiences!

For the price, CB2 is great! Not the best quality but I knew that going in based on what I was paying.
My furniture items from west elm were all damaged but the service on replacement was great!

Do not buy from Modern Dose they have the world's worst customer service ... well they actually have NO customer service. They are a complete rip off ... If you want to throw your money into the abyss buy from them ... but, to be honest I have never ever seen such horrible customer service. I still do not have my goods and I cannot contact them they never respond to their phone or their emails

    Kim (and others),

If you want top-notch customer service and superbly built furniture, try http://www.dutchcrafters.com/

All of their furniture is handcrafted by Amish woodworkers. It is "green" in the best sense of the word, as the Amish are truly organic and local folks. They sell a large variety of styles, though perhaps not as much modern as you might be looking for.
