SF Good Questions: Recommendations for Professional Rug Cleaner?

12-3-sf good q.jpgAT:SF,

I have a 1930's art deco cut pile wool rug that needs to be cleaned and I was wondering if anyone had a professional rug cleaner in the San Francisco or Oakland area they could recommend. Due to the age of the rug, I wouldn't feel comfortable cleaning it myself.

Thanks!

Sara

Call Persian Rug stores, and ask and find a few estimates :)

I don't know about delicate stuff, but I would highly recommend Healthy Choice Carpet Cleaners. John is the owner and he cleaned our non-delicate rugs, as well as our somewhat declicate couch upholstery. He was so freakin' nice and extremely affordable. AND it's totally non-chemical. He was awesome.
(100$ minimum, but you can get all kinds of stuff cleaned for that amount - we had 2 big rugs, a runner, 2 small rugs, a couch, and two chairs.)

Ditto Oven Mitzie. Where does one find such a beautiful object?

That is a beautiful rug, I agree. However that one isn't mine. My rug is currently almost completely hidden by my bed and other various furniture pieces, so I couldn't take a decent picture. It is very similar in style, but not color as mine is mostly a golden yellow with plum and rust red flowers and sage and pine green leaves. It was my best ever Craigslist purchase. Occasionally I have seen similar pieces on Ebay.

Jake's Mom, do they clean carpets at your home, or would I need to take the rug to them? I am moving soon and would like to clean the rug before I move it into the new place as it will be one of the focal points of my new living room. Thanks!
