SF Good Questions: Style or Origin of This Chair?

12-20-good q.jpgAT:SF,

I found this chair in an alley. I like its lines. Does anyone know anything about its style or origin?

Thanks,

Julia

Julia,

We love great street finds!

It's classic Danish Modern, but we're not sure of the designer.

Anyone know?

It's pretty! Does "pretty" count as a style? ;)

Really lovely!
I agree it is Danish modern in style. Beautiful blonde wood, birch??
However I think it was made in USA. It looks like HEYWOOD WAKEFIELD CHAIRS, mid century, USA.

I agree with the above guess that it's an American made version of Danish Modern. I purchased 4 very similar chairs on Craigslist myself. The legs on your chair do taper in a much more refined way than mine do. I think it's very unlikely to be particularly collectible or to have a famous designer behind it, but it's still a classic, interesting and useful chair (and free!).

I saw some like it on craigslist, too, here in L.A. - not as nice, and for $220 for 4 - congratulations on your find.

It looks like a very nice interpretation of danish modern design. Cheaper styles would not have legs that taper so nicely. It may not be a collectible, but it is a sweet little chair! It looks pretty 50's to me.

No makers mark on the bottom, huh?

I have almost exactly the same chair- found in the back of an old cofeeshop- I stripped it as it was in pretty bad shape then teak oiled it and covered the seat in black- it's now my computer chair!
