SF Good Questions: Where Can I Find Cool Round Rugs?

3-17-round rug.jpg

AT:SF, I just moved into an apartment in Portland... I am looking for a place, (online or in store) to find cool, unique or vintage round rugs for my living room. Anyone know some websites of places I can look for round rugs???

-Maggie

Maggie,

We're not sure about vintage, other than eBay, Craigslist, and flea markets.

Check out Peace Industry.

West Elm has this round braided rug and this round flokati wool rug.

Overstock.com has some round rugs.

So does Target.

Anyone have other ideas for Maggie?

Design Public has quite a few. Angela Adams, in particular, has several:

For each of the rugs listed there, many of them have a round option. For example:

We bought the runner version of that rug and it's awesome. So soft!

Twinkle Living (also found on Design Public) has some round rugs too.

For Flokati Rugs, I've purchased from http://flokatirug.net/
Their prices are lower than West Elm's Round Flokati.

There are also lots of round rugs available from both Homedecorators.com and Overstock.com

If you're looking for a shag, try http://www.sansomshagrugs.com - ask and they'll send you free color samples (they also sell on eBay)

You can have carpet cut to a circle shape - I had two cut "round and bound" from an ordinary carpet warehouse type place & they turned out great. Not necessarily vintage, but you might find something you like.

Rugs Direct has a search feature that allows you to look at rugs available in round (over 800 of them in the Contemporary category!):
http://www.rugs-direct.com/rugsdirectory/home_page.aspx?Nao=0&Search=Adv&N=125 4294967231 88&displayCount=72

And over at Rugs USA, I did a search for round:
http://www.rugsusa.com/rugsusa/control/keywordsearch?prod=RUG&SEARCH_STRING=round&FILTER_INACTIVE_PRODUCTS=Y&SEARCH_PRODUCT_TYPE=RUG&x=15&y=12

If you liked Leslie's jute, check out this one, looks like a target or circles:
http://www.rugsusa.com/rugsusa/control/prod/~pid=272GR603-606R/~color=8636

Don't overlook the braided rugs either, even though they tend to scream grandma in their oval form...
http://www.rugsusa.com/rugsusa/control/prod/~pid=108MT40-10010R/~color=8315

Simply place your finger(s) horizontally over the middle of the oval braided rug photo, to see the two halves of a round. In that above rug, you'd have a cool looking spiral.

Spirals have been around forever, and are both organic and modern. Depending on the color choices, you can make it appear more organic or more modern.

The Black mix here could be very nice in a round:
http://www.rugsusa.com/rugsusa/control/prod/~pid=108WA43-P/~color=10103

And don't forget...they are reversible. Same on both sides. This one in the charcoal reminds me of flannel:
http://www.rugsusa.com/rugsusa/control/prod/~pid=108MO76-10010R/~color=8302#

Mixed gray:
http://www.rugsusa.com/rugsusa/control/prod/~pid=108L702-10010R/~color=10177
You get something with the mixed colors that is reminiscent of this Marimekko design:
