Where Can I Find a Similar Ikat Fabric?
Good Questions

ikat101309.jpgQ: I was hoping to get some suggestions on prints that are very similar to the ikat print on this Lorraine Headboard from Anthropologie. I'm hoping to DIY my own headboard for a significantly lower price.

There are a lot of great authentic Uzbek Ikat and Suzani textiles on eBay. I bought nine items from this seller and had a great experience (see link):

Lorrie that is a stunning fabric! Although, I don't have the source, I did just get a template from Design Sponge for a DIY headboard. Would you like me to email it to you?

This store has a lot of different ikat fabrics at reasonable prices:

I also recommend ebay but I have to say I've ordered some of the Uzbek ikats and it took a month to receive them and they arrived smelling like an ashtray. The Uzbek fabrics are beautiful but they are very narrow widths and the hassle just wasn't worth the savings.

If you're looking for something for a headboard I would recommend an upholstery fabric. The 54" width will be helpful and they typically don't require interfacing.

Here's a GORGEOUS Schumacher velvet ikat for a great buy it now price!

Are you sure you want to do a headboard in ikat fabric? It is going to be very dated in about a year.

The problem I find with upholstering a full/queen size headboard is that most fabrics are 54" wide, which is not enough to cover the whole width of the headboard. These ikat and otomi fabrics are good because they're usually pretty wide. I also agree with a previous post that a good looking duvet cover or even a nice fabric shower curtain would do the trick!

Check out Amy Butler fabric - I prefer quilthome.com http://quilthome.com/ for the best selection. Especially her lotus, nigella and belle collections have similar patterns.
