Abundant Earth's Recycled Sweater Blankets

2007_02_16_circle-square.jpg
These wool blankets are a cross between the quilts of Gee's Bend and those of Denyse Schmidt.

They owe their warmth and their rustic vibrancy to their green construction: they're hand-pieced from post-consumer wool sweaters, which are cleaned, softened, cut into strips, sewn together and then edged.

Port Townsend, Washington-based Abundant Earth carries several patterns, including some in cotton and cotton denim, but we're partial to the wool patterns, particularly Circle/Square and the Highlands, pictured below. And we're particualry impressed by the palettes, which will soften and brighten modern interiors without notching down their sophistication.

The Highlands comes in several juicy palettes.

The blankets come in several sizes: baby, throw, twin full/queen, and king, and run from $119.95 to $499.95. (Hand labor does not come cheap!)

These remind me of a beloved Crispina sweater I have. It's a fun site and the products are amazing:
