It also caught our eye because of the resemblance it bears to local lighting designer Pablo's (of Pablo Designs) Cortina and Ventana lamps. It uses the same technique -- a transparent fabric diffuser -- to soften the light source and spread the glow.
Unlike Pablo's lovely lamps though, Arise is being marketed as a green light fixture, featuring mostly recycled and/or recyclable materials and energy-saving halogen bulbs. And a further considerate detail: it has a clear cord.
Arise is available in four sizes (from $264.26 to $577.86) at EcoLights.com.
I'm curious about this and the Cortina lamp, does anyone have the Cortina? Does light only come from the bottom? If I put this in a corner between a sofa and a wall, will any light be blocked by the sofa? Is there enough light to light a room?

I've been looking at the Cortina for some time now and wondering also how much light it gives. I want it for the end of my hallway, next to floor to ceiling bookshelves. Anyone have experience? And if price is a consideration, the Cortina is almost $100 less on ylighting.com -- the 72". They don't have the Arise.

luckygirl24: I had the Cortina and found that it really didn't offer enough lighting for an entire room. I bought mine a few years back, and perhaps since then, Pablo has improved on the design so that it's just as functional as it is beautiful.
And, yes, the lamp's two bulbs (I think there were two) were located in the bottom, so that's where the light came from.
I think that the Cortina works best as more of a design piece than a primary light source, so I would recommend placing it in an area where it's in full-view (which will also, of course, maximize whatever light it does give off).

I love the Cortina, although it's almost become an urban cliche. I really, really wanted to buy one a couple years ago, but at the last minute did not because I realized that it would attract tons of dust to its acrylic surface and would be really hard to clean the interior surfaces :( So I let it go.
