Recycled Light Bulb Hanging Vases

5-9-light bulb vases.jpgCheck out these hanging light bulb vases. We're somewhat gobsmacked at how great they look, and how easy they are to make.

my jaw dropped when a saw this... and now i have a HUGE grin... i can't wait to get home and do this... i just bought a bunch of energy-efficient bulbs, so now i have extra incentive to actually switch 'em over.

i'm a big fan of growing plants in water:

but the new kitten is tearing them apart... these will work great for my baby spider plants, and will keep them out of the kitten's reach!

Oh dear.... this is too similar to something meth addicts would do. (they do the same thing with light bulbs to make an ersatz pipe for smoking......~shudder~ )

I have to say, I was charmed--but then I guess I don't really know what meth addicts "recycle."

I'm gobsmacked that anyone thinks these look good, much less great. Really, why?

Maybe if you put paint on the inside, to help hold the glass together when it inevitably falls, or gets knocked, and shatters. I've had way too many bad experiences with breaking lightbulbs to risk them in decor. It does look sweet!

What about frosted white bulbs? Most of the bulbs in the house are the frosted variety...might not have the same effect.

one year later...

happened upon this post and wanted to respond to the previous comment about frosted white bulbs, in case anyone else winds up here as well: most incandescent frosted bulbs are coated inside with kaloin, a pretty harmless mineral that can be easily wiped out of the bulb before displaying your blossoms.

this is a pretty neat project, but with four kids, two cats and a dog in the house I don't think I'd dare hang anything so fragile around here!
