Since our animals can't talk to us using specific language, we often rely on what looks comfortable to us when choosing a pet bed. Provided your animal actually uses the bed, this makes a certain degree of sense: since you'll likely see the spot everyday, it contributes to your overall feeling when at home.
That said, the Bella bed has so much going for it: it looks like something out of an animated film, with pretty colorblock fabric in a stuffed spiral, but it's also made from recycled cotton and filled with recycled PET, usually from plastic bottles. The shape allows the bed to adjust depth, from cave-like to pretty flat.

The true donut bed rocks.. my dog still favors this over all the others in the house and easy to clean.

Cute bed & cute pics. My kitty has a donut bed as well as a basket bed and sleeps in both. Of course, I've had my eye on a bed on etsy.com because I can choose the fabric and the bed looks cat comfy as well:
